Everyone on here keeps saying the Nexus 7 is a poor device... Okay, then why? Do you even have an answer, or just because it doesn't have an Apple logo stamped on the back? Have you actually ever used any Android handset for that matter? I purchased a Nexus 7 in July, and for all intents and purposes haven't touched my iPad since.

I too purchased an N7 a while back and have since sold it. The apps were blown up phone apps - not much written specifically for a tablet. And there was never an instance where I thought "Man I could never do this on my iPad". That coupled with the superior screen and overall app experience/availability and the ecosystem which syncs so effortlessly led to my sale of the N7 and my decision to never buy Android again.

For me it's all about ecosystem. And Apple's is second-to-none.

Then why the fiddlestick is the iPad mini not running the same chips?

Price? really?

Cost. Power requirements (battery size/weight). Packaging issues. ...

What, you believe that engineering changes and tech development don't have consequences?

So, you will never be happy until Apple stops innovating and upgrading their hardware and software? Your old Mac Pro is certainly not obsolete. Do you get this angry when auto manufacturers come out with their new models?

1. You missed Ubele's use of the Sarcasmo font, didn't you?

2. Ubele was making fun of all too common "first-world problem" sufferers.

What feature set. You mean specs? The problem is, N7 is a poor tablet/web browsing experience and the N10 has no apps. $400 is a lot to spend for a mostly web browsing device.

Have you actually tried it? I have no issues.

and what apps are you talking about when you say no apps?

Why is it that when an alternative OS device comes around, and everyone touts is good hardware specs, the MR forum always says how specs are irrelevant, but then when a new Apple product comes along, good specs are everything?

I've had many Android tablets, they are fine and I would prefer Android overall, however, he only problem I have with them is that most of the Android apps look like junk. Just low quality ugly junk. Google needs to put in some standards for app developers. Once they apps become better quality, I have no problem jumping to Android or even Window 8 because I personally don't like the company Apple too much since they act too arrogant.

the iPhone 5 and ipad 4 have more than doubled the predecessor :O Seems to be an Apple trend now :D I guess that is what happens when Apple makes their own chips instead of relying on others!

No, it's what happens when there's still tremendous headroom in the mobile CPU industry.

This won't continue forever.

Are they even calling it the iPad 4? It's just a spec-bumped iPad 3..

I had the same experience, I had the N7 for a week and hated the screen, it looked so dull and cheap and the apps were low quality junk. I am giving up on Android and gonna go to Windows 8 once more app developers are on board.

Why are people upset? This is the way apple has worked for years. Have incremental upgrades to have the faithful buy it up again. This will happen with the mini too. It will get a Retina display upgrade in 6 months, then an a Retina and A6 chip upgrade 6 months later.

What do you have to do to see this performance difference? All I do is browse web on my iPad.

yes the doubled power of the ipad 4 is great but what you celebrators fail to remember is that jailbreaking the ipad is no longer legal .... soooo... the ipad3 on 5.1.1 with jailbreak is now the best ipad to have since ipad 4 will never see a jailbreak..lol

the ipad3 on 5.1.1 with jailbreak is now a highly sought after collectors version

Let's see...

1.7GHz - Doesn't matter. This is just a technical spec and doesn't actually imply performance.

2GB - Again, just a technical spec which doesn't imply actual performance.

Higher resolution - Doesn't matter AGAIN. Another technical spec. The PPI on both devices is so high that you can't see pixels. Both are HD quality.

Thinner/Lighter - Barely and pretty much unnoticed between the two.

$100 cheaper - You get what you pay for. Cheap hardware and low quality software.

Look, go ahead and go to Android. It will be great actually! Then we won't have to put up with your stupid troll comments anymore here.

Never. Going. To. Happen.

Get over it and move on.

I don't understand why some people need to be so defensive about their products rather than contribute to a conversation. You're like the polar opposite of a "fandroid" but equally as crazy.

I only have Apple tablet, phone, media players and computers in my house right now. But that Nexus 10 sounds AMAZING! I've had an android phone before. Actually before I even owned an iPhone. It has it's perks and iPhone products have it's problems. I do have a problem with Android Apps being mostly phone Apps over Tablet Apps though. The developers should start producing universal apps.

With all that said. I'm skipping the iPad 4 this year. I'll either be going with the Mini or some alternative I think. The 4 isn't a BAD idea but I'm liking the design and weight of the Mini. I'll pick up the 5th gen with a new design and A7X... unless of course I end up hating the Mini after I get it.

Its a double edged sword especially at the iPads price, you upgrade your devices too much and people will not want to buy it if its going to be 'outdated' in 6 months. 500 to 830 is not chump change to most of us.

I own an iPad 3 and while I'll admit it did bug me at first I realized that the iPad 3 is still going to be relevant for another year or two when you consider two just announced products came with the A5.

I will be waiting for next years announcement and will not be upgrading from the iPad 3 until there is another performance spec jump instead of a half release where secondary features are the only thing upgraded.

What surprises me is the slight advantage of the iPad 2 when people here were complaining that it is too slow and their iPad 2 is better.

This is why Apple is better right now because their app store is a) well organized and b) they have the most tablet friendly apps.

They can keep pushing specs all they want if they don't improve their store they are going to be spinning their tires in the mud.

I like my xoom better for basic browsing (because of the keyboard customization you can do under android) but when it comes to apps the android store is terrible. They need to separate the phone apps from the tablet apps, instead it essentially runs phone apps in big screen mode and it looks terrible.

Let's see. With this logic everybody should buy iPad 2 instead of iPad 4 because the specs that you listed are the only difference between the two while iPad 2 has much better price.

I have an advice for thos who want to always stay at or ahead the latest model of iPad (iPhone) - buy Android/Samsung devices.

Thats terrible, i just bought my iPad 3 earlier this year. had i known this, i wouldnt have. And people talk about Androids:rolleyes:

I think it's the latter. Spec bumps are nice, but with the OS staying the same, it goes unnoticed in real time use (or very minimal)

Some people never learn...

Hint: (That means you)

Probably runs iOS better too...

So much wasted spec, so little optimization.

Haha, love u guys... I teased with Nexus 10 because I just wanted to see the Apple fan base here. And see how much logic people put in their explanations. One mention of a competitor and everyone looses their minds...

By the way, I'm gonna get myself iPad when they put IGZO panel in it. I like iPad's build quality and metal over plastic ****. (Not because I follow a religion called APPLE)

Edit: After reading like 30 replies, and reading comments from some of the smarter individuals: I am fully convinced of your reason to support iPad over Nexus 10. I Learned that clock speed don't matter much, its the architecture that matters and can't be listed as a spec. Great discussion.

By the way I have never owned Android before! I have Mac, iphone, ipod and going to get iPad next year.

so...

Yes! I was really concerned about the performance of angry birds on my older model ipad. This will solve my fps issue.

That power should do justice to any graphically-intensive game coming out in the next year or two. What a jump!!! I wish Apple had put the iPad on a diet, bringing it down close to 1 pound. Maybe they're holding that back for the Spring 2013 edition of the iPad!!!

So my decision remains, underpowered, non-retina mini or powerful, but still a little too heavy to just grab & go iPad 4? I don't want another A5 so I think it's iPad 4 for now, maybe trade it in for mini take 2 or iPad 5 next year depending on the specs of the 2nd gen mini or weight reduction of the iPad 5.

Have you actually tried it? I have no issues.

and what apps are you talking about when you say no apps?

Yes, I have two 7" Android tablets: nook color and N7. By "no apps" I mostly meant there's a dearth of Android apps optimized for tablets. Sorry, should've clarified.

While Android has all the mainstream apps, there are definitely a lot more apps in the App Store, for sure. For example, my wife downloads a lot of medical educational titles which aren't available for Android. Also, I love to play around with music apps, like Animoog, dJay, GarageBand, Addictive Synth, etc. that aren't even possible on Android. Then there are the financial and bank apps where the difference between the Android and iPad versions are like night and day. Although, that only covers some of my needs and personal interests, that pretty much sums up my overall experience between Android tabs and iPad.

Meh a $200 Nexus 7 has the same power....I have a ipad 2 and a Nexus and i have not touched my ipad since i got the Nexus. The tablet apps on android are getting better everyday, anyway when you can watch a movie while surfing the web on an ipad come and talk to me ;)

Man, the power jump from the iPad 2's A5 to the iPad 3's A5X looks downright pathetic compared to the A5X to A6X jump. It makes me wonder if Apple will give the iPad mini a similar jump with the 2nd gen mini? Maybe even bypass the A6, going straight to the A7.

Forcing you....LOL!!!

The bad math fits with the quote too.

Um, folks, by starting out with "I can only imagine," and following it with text in quotes, I thought it was pretty obvious that I was predicting what many other foolish people would say if Apple starts updating the Mac Pro on a seven-month cycle. It's not what I would say. It's a response to all the whining about the iPad 4 coming out seven months after the iPad 3. I guess I need to start using the eye-roll emoticon or the /sarcasm tag.

Yay!! My G5 is almost as fast as an iPad :(

Yeah, seriously. This thing smokes my old iMac G5. This is just getting excessive and unnecessary, but anything that lowers the price of an equally-good iPad 3rd gen is great for me.

What do you have to do to see this performance difference? All I do is browse web on my iPad.

You have to run a Minecraft server on your iPad.
