Hello OrangeSVTguy. Please read my thread. You are posting message in wrong thread. This is for teh unibody MBP.
Thanks,
Bipin
Woah! Sorry! I don't know how my post got in this thread. That's strange. Now I can't even find the thread that I thought I originally posted in... Ghost thead? hmmm...

People who are totally anal about their Apple products should try a made in Japan laptop. Perhaps for some people, build quality is more important than having OS X...

it's pretty easy to put os x on a japanese laptop. I think the crappier apple makes their hardware the more hackintoshes you'll end up seeing.

It looks like rumour sites are just not for some people.
Is it actually normal for one to test more than one portable at the same time and choose which one is better? Can you really do the same with cars and such? "I think this engine sounds a bit different, this door is easier to close, can I try another one? Could you just switch the engines? Please?"
Come on now, does this not sound ridiculous to anyone?

What the hell are you talking about? If somebody has minor problems with a 700$ laptop they might just grin and bear it, but if someone finds flaws in their 2700$ laptop they're going to try to get it fixed or replaced. You might not remember when apple made quality products, but for all of us who have been there and seen apple put out good computers these defect-ridden unibodies are a big disappointment. The whole argument for spending an additional 1000$ for an apple has always been that apple has better quality products. Now that apple's quality is going downhill what will the pro-apple argument be, it has OS X? Anyone with half a brain can put os x on a PC. Apple can't survive solely on a trendy image and a smug marketing campaign. It seems to me that a lot of the people crying "you shouldn't complain about little defects" must be new to apple. If you were on a mac back when apple sent out a majority of defect-free computers you might be a little pissed when you have to return your third defective Macbook Pro.

Sounds like you're acknowledging Apple's inferior quality. At any rate, as wonderful as it is, OS X isn't worth an extra $1000. And yes, for $2000 or more spent on a laptop with average specs, I think superior build quality and consistent quality control are reasonable expectations.

This isn't to say that many users aren't ridiculously obsessive-compulsive types, but my first unibody MBP had scratches, dead pixels and crooked keys. MBP #2 had a piss-poor screen with huge, unevenly-backlit columns running up and down the screen, as well as a very loose battery cover and some crooked keys. MBP #3's SuperDrive failed 24 hours after purchase. A week later, I'm still waiting for a replacement drive to arrive so that the repair can be completed. (I wouldn't dare try another machine replacement.)

The quality of Mac OS X doesn't mitigate these problems.

Absolutely fantastic post, forgive me for saying this but some people on here come across as blind fanboy's.
Apple uses standard PC hardware parts, hell firewire has now been ditched on the Mac Book, they don't even use top of the range CPU's and GPU's, they offer no Blue Ray. Yet they sell there laptops at a PREMIUM price point. The bases for this is top quality, built to last products. It's certainly not OSx seeing as it's what £70.
So forgive me for demanding total perfection when I am spending over £1670 on a laptop.
And to these comments about made in Japan? WTF? The new laptops are made in China like pretty much everything else these day's. Apple don't make them, in fact I suspect none of them go anywhere near Cupertino.
I don't think the display is a reason to swap myself but as I have read on here some users are professional photographers so to them the display is important. Now I love the laptop, but I am waiting for the third one due to display faults which are not washed out colours.
