5.1 audio from iMac?

Is there a way I can get 5.1 audio out of my 27" iMac and route it to my pre/processer then on to my speakers? I want to do this for the audio when watching DVD's on the iMac. Thanks for your help.
 
If your receiver has an optical input then you can use a mini-Toslink to Toslink cable to passthrough Dolby Digital with DVD Player. If you rip the disks, then you can passthrough either Dolby Digital or DTS (inside an mkv container) using Plex or XBMC.
