I’m rebuilding my 2010 Mac Pro 5,1 and replacing the stock fans with Noctua 3-pin ultra quiet models. What I’m having difficulty with is disassembling the pci fan cage.

I’ve removed the two screws but I am unable to determine how it’s still being retained.

I looked at the clip holding the pin for the button and it looks like it’s part of the housing and not a separate piece.

Any suggestions on how to disassemble this cage? TIA.

I've finally managed to do it ;) Didn't find the 3mm hex screws at first, but then it was still stuck after unscrewing them... I slid a Jimmy between the button and the cage (where the PCIe slot numbers are) and it snapped loose fairly easily.

There's a position at the end of the slot where the outer cage can be carefully forced to slide over the inner casing.
