Apologies in advance if this is well trodden turf but for the life of me I can't find an answer (and I'm a new poster to boot).

I can merrily rip DVDs and play them back with all features and functions as expected if I use DVDplayer or VLC. 5.1 sound is not a problem at all.

However, if I then use HandBrake to make an H.264 version of the main feature for playback via iTunes then all I get is stereo. Regardless of setting I either get stereo or I get silence.

What am I doing wrong? All I want is a similar experience that I get from playing ripped files through DVDplayer but using H.264 through iTunes instead. If I buy movies from the iTunes store then I get 5.1 sound (when available), so how do I achieve the same sort of thing with my own rips?

Thanks in advance!

It is probable that handbrake cant support 5.1 output or the 5.1 is not standard, just better than stereo. U can try Pavtube DVD Ripper to rip your dvds, it can offer u H.264 and real 5.1 channel for enjoying.
