Every single apple product anyone has bought is a luxury item. Aside from ONE laptop/MacBook, no one really needs an iPhone or ipad or apple watch etc.

The Plus will slot in nicely in my iPhone 5, retina mini and air line up. I'll just use the right TOOL for the right job. It's like those people who never understand why anyone would have more than one screwdriver or drill bit.

I agree. The right tool for the right job. I'm keeping my iPad Air because I mostly use it for work for productivity. At home and on the go, the Air typically stays put away and I use my iPhone (unless my phone is charging). The 6 plus will make my iPhone even more useful on the go as this 4" screen has been too small for me for awhile (although I will miss one handed operation).

It will definitely replace my iPad Air for couch web surfing at night while watching TV. I can finally just lay down and surf the net in comfort between plays while watching football.

No, I think the i6p would be perfect.

When I'm out and about to me its a travel size iPad, not too big not too small.

The iPad Air is a fantastic document reader. It's just a little small but does the trick. Also, there are plenty of apps that need the space.

The interesting comparison will be with the Mini. This big phone may cut into sales of that.

A real possibility I would think.

The iPad Mini still has the advantage of running full tablet apps. I hope that the iPhone 6 Plus at least gives me the choice to do so, since a blown up iPhone app would look like garbage and function like that as well.

If the 6 Plus runs iPad native apps then maybe, but if not there will still be a need for the Mini.

Depends on what you use your iPad for.

If you're comfortable reading and watching media on a 5.5" screen (assuming you do that on your iPad), then the iPhone 6+ will be great for that.

If, however, you use the iPad Air or Mini for productivity (lots of emails, photo editing, writing, work on the go with a bluetooth keyboard) and like having a bigger screen for reading/media consumption, then no phone will ever replace the iPad for you.

No way am I doing photo editing or lots of writing on a 5.5" screen......so the iPad Mini stays.
For photo editing, editing text a Mac is far better than any size iPad,so the comparrison is not between iPad and large iPhone,it's between Mac,iPad and iPhone 6 Plus.
I'd say owning a Mac and an iPhone 6 Plus makes the iPad (specialli Mini) unnecessary for 80% of consumers.

I have both the iPad Air and the iPad Mini w/Retina display. I am selling the iPad mini because I will be purchasing the iPhone 6 Plus.

It would be silly keeping both. 5.5" and 7.9"?

I sold off my iPad mini retina and my iPhone 5s in anticipation of new goodies this year. Needless to say I don't think I'll end up picking up another iPad mini when they refresh. I think a 5.5" iPhone will suit both MY tablet needs and of course phone needs.

5.5" iPhone 6 Plus kills the iPad (for me)..you?

It doesn't kill the iPad Air I'd prefer to read magazines on a big screen but if you do own an iPad Mini the 6 Plus may actually replace it because the difference in screen size is marginal.

Once developers optimize their apps to the “phablet” format you will have the best of best worlds; a pocketable iPad mini. But Apple just killed iPad mini sales with this move. No one is going to buy a 5.5” iPhone and mini unless they have money to burn. And no one wants to by a 4.7” iPhone which is being positioned with lower specs.

It really depends if the iPhone 6 plus has a better battery life than iPad :) hihihi. In my opinion only

I have to agree when it comes to the mini. However the full sized ipad screen will still have use around the house instead of the phablet.... For me.

I use the air for reading and annotating PDFS. I also use it to analysis data, and design scientific figures (for publishing). The air will continue to get heavy use from me.

That being said, the iphone 6+ will be great. Honestly can't wait to ditch my lg g3 and get one .

Not for me. A larger iPhone makes tasks I do on my phone easier but it comes nowhere near the screen space I want for most things I hit my iPad for.

Interesting opinions from everyone. I think the best plan for me is to hang on to my iPad Air until I get the iPhone 6 Plus under the same roof. Give it a week to see if the screen size differences are still worth having both and decide from there.

First world problems x 1,000,000 :):apple::rolleyes:

I've been thinking about doing the same. I believe I will sell my iPhone 5s and iPad mini and get the 6+ with the money I make from selling both. My iPad is mainly used for internet browsing while on the couch.

I have an iPhone 5s and an iPad Air. The size discrepancies between the two devices makes the experience different enough to warrant owning (and managing) both.

With the 5.5" iPhone Plus, the iPad becomes even more of a luxury than before and something that I could easily live without. iPad Mini owners will feel this effect even more. In the end, I'd rather sell my iPad Air and manage just one iOS device that serves both purposes than own both. Interested in what others plan to do if they get the iPhone Plus and own an iPad (and no, I'm not saying what I'm doing is what you should do...just want your usage opinions).

i still like the iPad air for use on my couch. i will start leaving it home more often

I think it was the Verge who said it best. Basically, the 6 Plus forces Apple to really differentiate the iPad now because a lot of people just won't bother with a tablet. although, as a practical matter, there's a BIG difference in usable screen space between an iPad, either mini or Air, and a 5.5" phone. A lot of people probably won't care though.

What's easier to lug around? An iPad Mini (fits in a coat pocket, purse, small bag) or a Mac computer (briefcase)? What's quicker to access at any time (i.e. boot time, program loading time)?

For those who do use the iPad to write (how exactly is writing on a Mac better than an iPad with a Bluetooth keyboard? I've timed myself and it's the same speed, same efficiency), you're not going to get the size with an iPhone, and you're not going to get the same portability with a Mac.

Ditto for emails. I'm a web development project manager. I get hundreds of emails a day. I can't always sit around a computer to answer them/archive them as they come in, and I'm not typing with a touch screen on my iPhone. It is easy to whip out the Bluetooth keyboard, turn on Bluetooth on my iPad, and take those emails out.

Photoediting? That's debatable and depends on what you use to edit and the amount of editing necessary. Most photos I take require very little editing, so a program like Lightroom is perfect and runs perfectly on the iPad Mini.

How about things like shopping and checking things off a list? I use my iPad Mini all the time for grocery and other shopping. iPhone is too small for this, and there's no way I'm lugging around a laptop to do it.

Where's the proof that 80% of consumers will suddenly find the Mini/other iPad unnecessary if they have a Mac and an iPhone 6+?

I thought the same when I sold my iPhone 5 and bought a Nexus 5 (I know it's only 5"). I thought I would use my iPad Mini less, but no.

I'm selling my Nexus to buy the new iPhone - having now tried Android, I'm not a fan. However, because I'm used to having a larger phone, I think I'll go for the 5.5 iPhone, and I can't see it replacing my iPad.
