Hey guys

Has anyone had this on there 5K iMac or any Apple computer.

Was working in FCPX and then all of a sudden video wouldn't play, checked YouTube video wouldn't play and then iTunes video wouldn't play.

Does this sound hardware related? Also music won't play either.

I'm pretty sure a reboot will make it work. I had the motherboard changed 3 days ago and this is a problem I had on previous 5K iMac I was given.

This is now my 5th machine, could my UAD Apollo 8 through thunderbolt be damage all these computers?

Thank you

Roberto

A possible point of trouble is drivers, such as what would be required to drive realtime interfaces such as the Apollo. Thunderbolt is essentially an interface to the PCI bus, so the driver must be solid, not only for the hardware but also for the OS level. Not every device company has the capabilities to keep current on these, and to ensure against causing problems elsewhere on your Mac. They often make an assumption that while your using their interface you're not doing anything else. My recommendation is to follow up on that, especially if that's what's common across 5 different Macs.

Thank you for the great response. Now you mention it, it seems to happen when I'm doing more than one thing such as mixing on Logic Pro X and editing on FCPX and the interface has to be connected so I can use the plug-ins for Logic Pro X.

The previous machines had hardware faults which where identified in approved repair centres and genuis bar. This machine however showing same signs but no previous hardware faults identified. With this new fault I have dropped it off again today to see if they discover a hardware fault.

If it comes back again with no hardware issues, it seems what you have said would be correct and I will contact UAD, they are supposed to be high end interfaces at £2000.

Thank you for your reply.
