Macs does nativly support mice with even more than 5 buttons. Its just lack of configuration options that buggs me

Yeah that's what I meant in terms of being "supported". I don't like it how you can only configure/customize an Apple mouse unless your third party mouse has it's own software. I hate installing their crap. So, the Service Rep was technically right, but it only affects Apple mice, and nothing else.

Any-who, you said you tried USB Overdrive. How long did you wait? I've had take a minute or two (it seemed) in recognizing a device. Sometimes having to unplug it and try again after the system had booted.

There is also the GamePad Companion app. Similar to Overdrive, but for one reason or another it might recognize your mouse when Overdrive can not.

USB Overdrive works, its just that the forward and backward options that doesn't work.

It might be becouse of my norwegian os and keyboard configuration, but I am unable to find anyone that can confirm it...

I made a call to apple, to see if they had a possible solution for my trubble. The custumer representative was very friendly, an told that after having an apple mouse connected to the computer, does aditional settings appair in system pref. She did not know if it would solve my spesific issue, but if I had access to one, would it be worth a try. I do not have an apple mouse, can anyone confirm/unconfirm this?

No, I just tried this with an old Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse and although it does add a tab to the preference pane, there are no options to enable back and forward through the extra option tab. I think you're stuck with the per application solution.

Well, does Overdrive not recognize those buttons, or can you just not program them? If you can assign key bindings/commands to the buttons still then it is command-up/down arrows (or left right, I can't remember). The Finder use one of them, and then Safari used the other I believe. Don't know if it's changed in 4.

Thanks!

I ment the built in forward/back options.

Guess I will just have to enter all the application individual forward/back shortcuts into USB Overdrive. But here is the point where I have to wave my finger at apple:

In the english os language setting are you unable to use cmd+arrow as an alternaltive shortcut, all applications, without exeptions, use cmd+[ and ].
If you have a norwegian keyboard layout are you unable to click [ and ] (as a shortcut atleast).
This forces me to use the norwegian translation of OS X, wich have the key shortcuts as messed up as a shuffeled deck of cards.
