Had to refund my previous MBP M1 Pro that was constantly running hot just browsing Chrome. Got a brand new MBP M1 Pro on Friday and while I got around to configuring MacOS to my preference, I noticed the trackpad not giving my any haptic feedback, screen was still on then suddenly blacked out. I recall I had about 46% battery remaining. So I plugged it into AC, the MagSafe light doesn’t even light up! Press and hold the TouchID power button still no response. Held Command Control and TouchID down at same time for over 30 secs, no response.

Hot while browsing Chrome? The fans barely even come on when running benchmarks. You have some weird issues…

If you return it and the THIRD ONE does the same thing...
... then it's time to consider what software you're running on it...

I only got around to install Topnotch, Google Chrome, Rectangle and Final Cut Pro (didn’t even open yet). Anyways, got my 3rd M1 Pro 14 yesterday. So far so good lol

Doesn’t Chrome have a reputation of being problematic? Causes high CPU, runs hot, suck batteries etc? I don’t use it on my Macs but my work PC ramps up its fans when I use it. It also uses CPU even when the app is closed. Pain in the ass browser IMO.

All true. “Hot while running Chrome” is almost certainly a solvable software issue… however the OP returned it and got what sounds like an ACTUAL hardware problem on the 2nd machine. Swapping devices is not always the best solution.
