It would be great to not need wifi in order to interact with the homepods. My iPad and iPhone are never connected to the wifi and I have to connect them to wifi before any interaction with my homepods. It’s so last decade!

How about aux input so we can connect our TVs and Xboxes to them? And aux with some of those adaptive sound thingies that detects how the sound is bouncing around the room. And surround sound with some HomePod minis.

So you say add a cellular chip and pay for cellular service to use homepods instead of free WiFi? What are you even talking about? How is the HomePod supposed to stream?

all this tech but nothing about sound? The homepod became worse with the smaller size, and reduced bass and if anything, the core feature is how does it sound?

The price may help a little but that's it. It needs lots more...

Siri that actually works instead of saying "hang on... I'm having trouble doing that right now"
Third party app integration.
More/easier third party music services.
Ability to read Apples own audio books from a voice command instead of Airplaying from another device.
Ability to stream from Music app on a Mac via Home Sharing.
Drop in like the Echo can.
Ability to use purchased music in home automations.
Sound recognition that can trigger an automation like playing white noise when it hears a baby crying (Seriously how is this in a iPhone but not a HomePod????).
You can stream to your homepods from a mac, as long as they're on the same network. I do it all the time. I also use purchased music in home automations. I have music start playing in the morning when I shut off my alarm. So I'm not sure why these are on your list. Some of the other items sound nice, like third party integration and a sound trigger for automations.

So from what I'm reading, Siri is better on Full than Mini. She hasn't recognized our AM sub for months. I logged out and in and rebooted and all that jazz over the weekend, and it worked for a little but then went back to saying it wasn't in my library. Got a Nest Mini, set the default to AM, and it works perfectly. I don't think I could ever find how to change the default music service for the HomePod Mini. It was easy in the Google Home App

You can 100% already do this with the last gen apple tv. (one with new remote)
You can get it at best buy now for $115 (not that bad)

I connect my stereo pair to my TV with this setup and it works flawlessly with native TV apps, video games, etc.

I love the clean look of my 2 homepods on either side of my TV stand, even if it had an Aux input port, I'd probably still do wireless because it looks more clean and it just works!

Price was the main issue. We own three HomePods and would have got more if they were lower priced. We bought 5 HomePod mini's once it launched. Would happily buy newer models if the price was right.

I loved my two OG Homepods. I bought one first then another when they announced stereo pair. So over $600 so I could have stereo HomePods. Then the first one died right after warranty and getting the pair, cost to fix is same as buying a new one. Lots of stories of bricked HomePods which is sad for a product that just sits on a table. Basically spent $300 to have stereo pair for a few weeks. Then discontinued. Why would I buy another??? Even when I loved it.

Siri IS an issue with my 2 OG’s. So I avoid using that “feature.”

Mine rarely disconnect from my wifi6 (Netgear RAX75).

Love the sound.

I hope new ones will sound as good, have Wi-Fi 6+ w/ mu-mimo.

Good networking is becoming very important for all our iot gear.

If we are wishing: Ethernet would be my only request, well that and a serviceable power cord/wort.

Otherwise, may our OG’s last many decades 😱🥰📺

I have both the Minis and the full size and though they sound good I only use them as stereo pairs for audio on Apple TV. As for home automation I use Alexa because Siri sucks so bad.

I tried a large HomePod before it was discontinued because people were saying it sounds good. I replaced my Ultimate Model 200B bookshelf speakers with a HomePod and it was not better sound. I returned the HomePod and still use the good Ultimate speakers in my kitchen.

A new large HomePod needs better sound and a subwoofer. Make it taller to incorporate a sub woofer. Also give it BlueTooth and lossless.

Sonos is overpriced garbage. I very much hope that apple this time has learned their lesson and either make something decent at an affordable price point or something actually good at a premium price.
The problem with Apple, does not and will not meet a big number of users wants or needs for home music. Sonos has a wide fully integrated hardware list for the users home music needs or wants. Portable, TV systems, Vinyl integration, lamps, picture frame, travel, amp for hardwired, bass, network for speakers. Integrating Apple speakers into Sonos impossible. Integrating Sonos into Apple a mess. The only chance Apple has in the home market fix the integration to flawless integration with other systems like Sonos. The all about the bass song, maybe. Apple is squeaky for those who want the theater experience at home.

Add an IR blaster and purchase the rights to the discontinued Logitech Harmony database to enable voice, HomeKit, or shortcut control of IR devices (avr, tv, settop boxes, projectors, etc.)

I'm starting to wonder if I might have lucked out. For some reason I still don't understand, one of the updates to my HomePods (3 OG, 3 Minis) forced me to reset all 6 of them about 6 months ago. (Apple Music couldn't find songs most of the time.)

Suffice to say: I actually don't see any of the Siri problems others are describing here, and we use them all quite a bit.

But more to the point: I'm certain I'm in for at least one of the "big" HomePods if they're under $200 and can keep up with the audio from the OG HomePod (volume included - Mini's just aren't loud enough for a few of my use cases.)

A price of $199 along with more functionality would make it much more attractive. If it were to be priced at $299, we would have a repeat of the original HomePod more or less since even at that reduced price, it sold poorly.

still not worth spending big money when siri is still so bad compared to google assistant. got to admit my two homepod mini's and big homepod aren't really being used. Anything of importance I will just ask either my google homes or google mini's.
Given every single time I ask Google to ‘play some music’ it replies by saying ‘Playing Someone You Love by Lewis Capaldi’ it can’t be much worse.

I’d like to see a USB-C port so you can plug in an SSD and use it as a time capsule.

An extension of this would be for Siri to be able to download media during the day so when streaming at night you’re not having to put up with a potentially flaky Wi-Fi network.

Multiple HomePods should offer a RAID config for Time Capsule so that if one part of the network is compromised the rest shut it off preventing access to any useful data.
