Nice, don't rub it in lol. Haven't had opportunities for me yet.

If you have a parent or close relative with good credit, you can ask to be added as an "authorized user" on one of their accounts. They don't even need to give you a physical card...just having your name on an account instantly grants you access to all of their positive history, and you reap the benefits!

Beware though, because the opposite is also true! If someone has poor credit, and you are an authorized user, that will reflect just as poorly on you!

That sucks but look on the bright side, at least you don't have credit card debt.

But you're 20 years old now, it's time to start thinking about building your credit for the future. Get yourself a secured CC and then graduate to an unsecured. Pay your bills in full and on time.

$500 deposit is totally absurd.

I can't believe you're recommending he do this. This could potentially destroy the other person's credit. Geez.

Try and get a credit card.. ANY credit card. Even one you have to pay for (secured card)... they build your credit.

I got my first credit card when I was 18.. (they'll give any college student a card.. even with no credit at all).

I'm now 21 and have great credit. My scores are in the 730 range and I have no problems getting any credit card or activating wireless service.

Get a card!

If you still wish to place an order for a post-paid plan which requires a deposit, please visit
an AT&T retail store near you as we cannot handle deposits online at this time.
AWESOME, order was just cancelled due to a deposit being required. Why is it so hard to accept deposits online? ATT wait time was an hour in store which is just rediculous. Didn't have time anyways.

Seriously. ADD as an authorized user but DON'T give him a card.... no possible way to mess up anyone's credit.

Re-read the "don't give him a card" part and you're right but even so, his credit could still be shot if his mother all of a sudden stops paying the card and goes into delinquency

Yeah, sure I could be an authorized user under parents, but I'm eventually gonna have my own contract anyways, so might as well do it now and build some credit.

A cell phone will not build your credit in anyway. It doesn't even show up on your credit report.

I agree AT&T needs a system like sprint and t-mobile. With those providers they run your credit while your checking out to let to know if there is a deposit and they give you the chance to pay for it online.
