Same issue here. Nearly 400 MB between the 21st and 24th, with use that should not have approached that amount of data (no LTE speed tests, no backing up to iCloud, just checking email, twitter, checked a handful of web sites, streamed one podcast, used the map app once, watched one music video on youtube, that's about it). I've sent messages to both Apple and Verizon without receiving a response yet.
LTE is 4g,
it doesnt change your network.
if you a throttled on LTE, it will slow your data speeds to .half a megabit a sec. 500kbps... give or take a few.
. a little faster than edge speeds.. but not much.
Watching 2 min of video per day with LTE will use up 2 GB per month.
Whoops, I mean LTE to 3G? Been used to my 4s spewing out 4G even though it's 3G but a little faster (I think).
This is pretty nice
LTE doesn't consume more than 3G...2 minutes of video is 2 minutes of video regardless of your speeds.
To the OP, you consumed 500mb in 3 days because you are playing with a new toy, and using it a lot more than your "old" phone. Its human nature. After you get bored with the new gadget your consumption will drop back to normal levels.
I neglected to type "HD". Many apps with 3G only play SD quality while the same app will change to HD with a broadband connection.
I use about 10-15 GB/month with my LTE iPad. I previously only used about 2 GB/month on my non LTE iPad.
Not any official Apple approved app, they are all SD unless on WiFi.
If you have jailbroken, this is the case assuming you install the correct app...but then again, this still has NOTHING to do with LTE. 3G and LTE would both be able to view the higher quality Youtube videos and consume identical amounts of data.
If you are consuming more data, its because you consumed more data...nothing more. LTE didnt magically make you do it.
I was stating that if one watches HD videos, that HD videos are are heavy in data. It does not even need to be technically HD, but an app using a higher resolution can occur when the iDevice detects a capable bandwidth compared to 3G speed.
My YouTube, Netflix etc apps do this. My devices are not jail broken.
I understand what you are stating, but I'm telling you Apple does not allow this. So unless you are jailbroken, you arent viewing high quality video on LTE.
But ... but ... but ... what about all the people that said data usage would be EXACTLY the same under 4G LTE as 3G??
A GB is a GB is a GB, but it's oh so much easier to stream HD video using 4G LTE and when pages load faster, you will be more inclined to web surf a little more and you WILL use more data than before.
Mark it down.
Since my iPhone 5 delivery is still in process I can only comment on my 3rd gen iPad. Netflix does not stream high def but it most certainly plays a lower resolution when my connection changes from LTE to 3G. The same occurs with YouTube. In these cases, neither technically were HD to start with, but the resolution is higher with an active LTE connection versus 3G.
Again, none of my devices are jail-broken.
yes, but these are two entirely different things. So you go to the restaurant and order a burger...but now the new restaurant has steaks and desert and a bar, so you order everything because its there. Who's fault is it your bill is now three times more than your burger cost?

Apple does not allow high quality streaming on LTE. Its not gonna happen unless you jailbreak. I think you are confusing wifi.
There is no question that EVERYONE's data consumption increased exponentially when we all switched from dialup to broadband. This situation is entirely analogous.
When pages load faster, you click more links. Not to mention Youtube and Netflix automatically increasing the bit rate of the streamed video when they detect faster connections.
This will be a recurring complaint in this forum in the months to come. I promise.
I agree with you. My point is you can't expect to pay the same for dial up as you do for broadband? So why do you expect the service provider to give you twice as much bandwidth w/o a consequence?
What confuses me at home I have fios cost abt 40 per month. We constantly have 2 computers going at once. Why is it they can afford to give me unlimited data with wifi but on my cellphone I'm not allowed that luxury. Does it really cost more to offer data on cellphones? Or they just being greedy cause they know we will pay for it.

I don't think the OP was talking about prices. He was talking about the huge increase in data consumption under LTE. There are others on this board that have steadfastly maintained that no one will use more data under LTE than 3G. They claim its impossible.
Yes, good questions. Unfortunately, I think there's a better chance that they'll start limiting home bandwidth, than switching to unlimited cellular data again.
