Ok well I admit i'm amazed :p You even remembered or taken time to look up the acronym.

Come now. You're not doing your bit to endear yourself and your last post suggests to me that you're fishing for sympathy.

Why should I try to endear myself?

Since then, i've not succeeded in communicating my point very well at all, offending and upsetting a few folks hence further pushing myself away from any chance of making friends or fitting in within any communities here that I may or may not wish to be a part of.

Explaining your train of thought puts your comments into perspective, it makes it easier for me to see why you felt the way you did. My own comments stand, but I do appreciate your taking the time to explain a bit.

Yes, you are. Your'e not offending anyone (really).

Well, I was a little offended :p , because I happen to be one who contributes to the forum, and I do so in order to show my appreciation. And I felt the need to pipe up about the generous thing BV did in arranging the social event. But don't worry about my being offended, TMA. Just felt the need to speak my piece.

I wouldn't worry about pushing yourself away. MR is a big and friendly place, and there are no doubt lots of small constellations of folks who have come to enjoy certain other folks humor, posts etc. You're part of the forum, too. So go forth and help a n00b, like frankblundt suggests. :)

Yes if we could agree that this reputation 'test' was a bad idea then I know i'd be happier.

My self imposed reputation was a slight dig meant to illustrate I objected to this experiment, not that I disagreed with a reputation system itself (don't know if I do or not)

If you base your happiness on everyone agreeing on an issue, you're not going to be happy.

Ok, I'll leave it now. Sorry for not merging more posts, it was hard to keep track of what was posted while I was writing.

You want to be part of our clique, don't you?
Oh crap.. I just admited that we have a clique.
It is not a clique, it is the group support portion of a 12 step program.

Now i'm just completely confused.
Sun Baked is a smart ass.

~Shard~ is a grammar/spelling bastard.

No one is in a clique. Unless you don't like Macs. Then you're in the PC clique and we hate you.

Thanks for clarifying that emw, I wouldn't want anyone to get the wrong idea about me. Let it be known that I can also be a smart ass (it's really part of being a bastard in general) so I am technically part of Sun Baked's clique as well. :p

Ah, good point. Double-cliquing. I'm just trying to figure out which one's the right clique.

You can tell there isn't a real clique, or I'd be banned :). I never get in with the "in-crowd" :(

MR is what you make of it. Come on here, help some people, flirt with others, post a lot of cynical comments and nonsense, then go on your way. Everyone else pretty much does the same from the evidence before us. As you post more, people notice you more. That's all there is to it (well, apart from some who appear to have taken it a step further ;) ).

Besides, for all you know, none of us exist at all. This could be one person sat in a basement having a big joke :p

I think perhaps what's got me abit worked up is that I am a tad on the paranoid side, (I try to get help for it), and I can normally weigh up a situation and come out with a logical understanding. However with me there will come a point where I cannot help but think on the paranoid side.

This has really come from this reputation thing. My train of thought goes something like this (and i'm not suggested this is the 'right' way to thing, but i'd feel happier if someone could agree with me)...

- A lot of people with demi status (and a few non demis) are given a reputation.

So? One word: random.

- Who decided who gets a 'reputation'

Big Brother. Osama bin Laden. Doctor Q's dog. Your wife. ENIAC. It could have been anybody or anything.

- Did they decide I didn't need/deserve/warrant a reputation?

Yes- they did it just to piss you off  . They have a vendetta against you. I can see them now: "Yeah, we'll fix his ass!"

- If thats just me being paranoid, then what else could be happening?

Maybe a switch just got flipped the wrong way in the Admin CP.

- Someones just having fun.

Or not.

- Wait - it's a bit inconsiderate to play games on a community like this.

Again, it was done just to fry your bacon and ruin your week.

- There will be an explanation

There was if you read between the lines- a random sampling of members were given a reputation, they were up for roughly a week and disappeared as quickly as they appeared.

- There's not been an explanation, someone realises they're being reckless and inconsiderate and doesn't want to own up.

Two words: Script Kiddie.

- No, that's just being paranoid, what else could be happening?

Two words: Script Kiddie.

- Arns making a point that he believes a reputation system would be daft, so he sets about creating a rigged/loaded 'demonstration' that gets people worked up in to a ruckass about nothing, thus is able to use this as evidence that a reputation system would be a bad idea.

Actually, reading over this thread, it seems like everybody else, including those 'granted' reputations, are just confused. You seem to be the only one taking it as a personal attack.

- Hmm I must be right about one or all of the above, because I can't think of anything else.

Since then, i've not succeeded in communicating my point very well at all, offending and upsetting a few folks hence further pushing myself away from any chance of making friends or fitting in within any communities here that I may or may not wish to be a part of.

You may be correct in your guesses- you know as much as the rest of us, Arn, and Doctor Q probably know- I'm sure that who/whatever caused this will be revealed in due time.

As a final note, the internet and forums in particular are very dynamic and diverse places- people will have differing opinions and points of view- Expect it and Respect it!. If somebody says/does something that you don't like, unless it is life-threatening, shrug it off! There are plenty of other discussions for you to distract yourself with.

I think this thread has run its course and can be closed now.

Mmm, I disagree. The officially approved course for a thread like this includes a heated argument in which two people are passionate and no one else cares, invisitext, analogies to PhoenixOS, and someone getting banned. *Then* it gets closed.

Well, at least, I'm bringing you one step closer by bringing up PhoenixOS. Two if I get banned. ;) :D

Hi TMA
I've read through most of your posts asking about this. I'm not 100% positive, but I think it's just a game. Nothing more. It's just there to have fun and perhaps generate some interest for those who might want to consider becoming a contributor. I'd just let it go.

Step three accomplished.
