Picking up new 13" MBP on Saturday.

Looking at the WD 500GB SCORPIO BLACK 2.5 INCH 7200RPM 8MB SATA-II as a replacement drive.

I have had a good look about the forums but can't find anything to support my decision.

Anyone had any experience of this drive? Is this a good move?

    Cheers all

I'd recommend the Seagate Momentus XT 500GB SSD HDD Hybrid drive if you have the money for it. Boots super quick, 7200RPM drive, and is great!

TBH I Never even thought of one.

Not a huge fan of Seagate stuff, but there is a hefty warranty on these.

The price isn't a great deal different from the WD drive.

Are they really that good? And how do they handle Bootcamp etc?

I just installed one this past week - it's "that good" as long as you're hoping for a faster 7200 RPM laptop drive, not if you're migrating down from an SSD. It appears to be OS-agnostic - it just remembers what data you pull most, regardless of what it is. I'm planning to install Windows 7 with Boot Camp on it in the next few weeks now that I have the space.

i dont think that HDD exists. I would have loved to buy one but the largest Scorpio Black i found was 320GB.

The 500gb just came out and is making its way into retail channels. The new 7200.5s will soon follow too, including a 750gb one. It's a good time to be looking at laptop hdds. =)
