500GB WD Black 7200 A good idea?

    Picking up new 13" MBP on Saturday.

    Looking at the WD 500GB SCORPIO BLACK 2.5 INCH 7200RPM 8MB SATA-II as a replacement drive.

    I have had a good look about the forums but can't find anything to support my decision.

    Anyone had any experience of this drive? Is this a good move?

    I'd recommend the Seagate Momentus XT 500GB SSD HDD Hybrid drive if you have the money for it. Boots super quick, 7200RPM drive, and is great!

    TBH I Never even thought of one.

    Not a huge fan of Seagate stuff, but there is a hefty warranty on these.

    The price isn't a great deal different from the WD drive.

    Are they really that good? And how do they handle Bootcamp etc?

    I just installed one this past week - it's "that good" as long as you're hoping for a faster 7200 RPM laptop drive, not if you're migrating down from an SSD. It appears to be OS-agnostic - it just remembers what data you pull most, regardless of what it is. I'm planning to install Windows 7 with Boot Camp on it in the next few weeks now that I have the space.

    i dont think that HDD exists. I would have loved to buy one but the largest Scorpio Black i found was 320GB.

    The 500gb just came out and is making its way into retail channels. The new 7200.5s will soon follow too, including a 750gb one. It's a good time to be looking at laptop hdds. =)
