Hey guys. So I'm getting a really good deal on a current gen 17" macbook pro. It's going to come with an i7 2.3ghz sandy bridge processor, 8gb of ram, anti glare screen, and a 512gb ssd. This is going to cost me ~1500. I was thinking of selling the 512gb ssd that's going to come with the system and probably go for a 128 or a 256gb ssd. This should bring my final cost of the mbp to ~900-1100. Do you guys think I should go this route or just keep the 512gb ssd that's going to come with the system.

I figure I won't really be using all of that space (will be using mbp mostly for programming), and if I really needed a 512gb or higher ssd sometime in the future, I can just wait until I need one and most likely they'd be cheaper and faster by then.

A current gen 17" in the UK would cost £2,979.00 with a 512GB SSD

I'm not sure how it'd be cheaper if you sold the SSD?

Cheers

If the SSD is apple, it's only SATA2. Which means you can see much faster speeds if you sell that and get a SATA3 ssd.

Ya, it's going to be current gen. The ones listed on the apple page currently. My friend who is sponsored by apple is getting it for me. But besides that, back to the original question. Worth it to keep the ssd or sell and get a smaller one ?

sell it - it can fetch £600 on fleabay

get a vertex 3 240gb in the meantime or a crucial M4

Ya that sounds like a good plan. Maybe I'll try to find someone local to sell it to. I'm assuming it's safe and doesn't void the warranty to open up the mbp to remove the ssd ?

"17" macbook pro, i7 2.3ghz sandy bridger, 8gb of ram, anti glare screen, a 512gb ssd. ~1500"

Sounds like either a scam (for the seller or buyer) or stolen goods to me. That's way too cheap.

I agree, sounds too good to be true. If it is, good on you though.
