Hi Folks!

If you saw my previous post, you’ll know that I recently picked up a 512k that I was really looking forward to refurbishing and playing with.

Long story short, the seller used zero packing material in the box, which resulted in the case getting pretty banged up.

I was wondering if anyone had a spare 512k shell for sale or knew of where I may be able to source one for a reasonable price?

Thanks in advance for any assistance you may be able to provide!

How bad is it? Are both the front an rear case parts broken?

Pics ?

When they packaged it, they put the mouse on the top, and when the system shifted in transit it punched through the grille. The front has a hairline crack just below the screen. I guess it depends on how OCD you are as to how bad it seems, but sadly my OCD is just slightly over the top, so it’s driving me absolutely insane! LOL Here’s some pics..

Wow - it looks like it was in good condition too.

If you scrap it (I wouldn't) make sure you retain that Apple badge - there are some badly faded rainbow apples out there.

I know, I was so excited that I’d found one of these in the condition it was in, it really was a kick in the teeth when I opened it up.

I’m in two minds what to do right now, I’m trying to work with the seller to see what they’ll do, so hopefully something good will come out of it. I’ve been trawling the net all evening trying to find replacement parts, but so far haven’t had too much luck. Hopefully someone will be have an odd shell kicking around, but if not, I think I’m going to have to go with buying a donor system (much to my wife’s displeasure), I couldn’t bring myself to scrap it.

My OCD is going into overdrive over the whole thing, but I think what bothers me the most is that the machine survived for over 30 years in such good shape, just for it to end up like this because someone couldn’t use some packing peanuts.. so sad..
