This year‘s iPhones just do not seem like a good buy for me. If Apple can give me ProMotion, LTPO, and the battery life of the 11 series in the 2021 or 2022 iPhone, that is when I’ll upgrade. 5G will be more built out and hopefully more efficient by then too.
I thought we were past the years where Apple only gave mediocre battery life and kept reducing battery sizes with each iteration. The sad part is, Apple probably reduced battery size to make room for the useless MagSafe.
5G is not needed today. Just good coverage of the latest LTE standards is sufficient. The most optimal option for the next few years.
to estimate the efficiency of 5g vs 4g, wouldt you not rather measure energy consumption per fixed amount of transfered data instead of surfing for 9 hours straight???
Would not have been a good look for apple.Imagine if they would’ve rolled out Promotion for this year’s iPhone, instead of optimizing it for a cellular technology that is nowhere near its prime. 😏
Thicker + more battery = heavy brick. That’s what people don’t want. The 12 Pro Max weighs 228 grams—over a half-pound.I would be more than happy to have a slightly thicker phone with more battery on it. Not sure what this fascination with thinner is. If I don’t have a case on my phone I find the phones too slim and slippery.

That doesn't sound like a scientific test. No repeats, until the battery was drained, etc...
The battery indicator shows 100% even when there's still some headroom. The battery will deplete faster when it's already warm. Then there's also no way to know what is running on the phone that's draining the battery; indexing files, recognizing faces in photos, apps requesting location info, that kind of stuff.
In theory the extra RAM in the pro might use a bit more power and maybe there's some antenna signal or cooling differences between the aluminum and stainless steel cases.
According to a lot of posters here, Apple was late with 5G. In reality, Apple was smart to skip Qualcomm’s first generation 5G chips, which were real power hogs.Would not have been a good look for apple.
According to the article,But, can I disable 5G if not available in my area and keep phone on 4G? Something like dei 4G option that is now available in settings.
Definitely... T-Mobile says that after 50GB of data, they may throttle your speed.5G is not needed today. Just good coverage of the latest LTE standards is sufficient. The most optimal option for the next few years.
making the case for the smart battery case. can a smart battery case work with the MagSafe charger?
Apple probably is working on a MagSafe branded smart battery case.making the case for the smart battery case. can a smart battery case work with the MagSafe charger?
Agreed. Thanks to the constant advertising by the carriers (including AT&T's false 5Ge), and the increasing noise tech sites and youtubers do about 5G, even the lay consumers are expecting 5G if they pay for a premium phone this year, whether they actually can use it or not.Would not have been a good look for apple.
Make battery smaller. Put power draining features (5G). Take out the charger. Make accessory for fast wireless charging.Definitely... T-Mobile says that after 50GB of data, they may throttle your speed.
Also, Video is streamed at 480p. So what's the point of having 5G if your data is capped and then you'll go back to good ol' misery speed?
And Apple with their obsession to make the iPhone thinner and thinner each time, instead of just leaving it the same and using a bigger battery. Oh wait! They want to sell you a battery case for extra $$$. That explains.
