Out of all the iPod's I've bought (and received) throughout the years, my White 30GB Video iPod has been beyond outstanding. Since Christmas 2005, it has proven to withstand measures of weather and everyday accidents. Even better is the condition it's in. I'm not sure why, but I'm proud of it.

Apple sure did one fine job with the Video iPod.

I might say that if I hadn't had to replace the headphone jack twice already.

Then again, it's survived many rather severe drops, a bottle of water and yesterday, 5 hours in the fridge at work

Aww OP don't rub it in.

I sold my 30GB iPod Video in 2007 to go to the then 'awesome' 160GB Classic. Man I do not like it. Problem is, it's no easy to find a 5G in good nick now.
I was young and an idiot who thought it would be cool to put all your video on the device hence the HD upgrade.

Biggest gadget mistake I have made in my life.

I've whinged about why the Classic annoys me in the 2010 thread but if I could swap my Classic for the exact one I owned I would. :(

Yo, you are not alone. I gave someone my 5g white video iPod with 30 GB to someone. I miss it so much. I was thinking about getting the iPod classic for the BTS. But the i couldn't use the click wheel smoothly like the old one iPod video. ...I did manage to get 50$ from a friend for it because it wasn't deserved to be given away for free.

Yep, I still have my 60GB white Classic 5G. Yes, it's still in excellent condition. No, I'm not getting rid of it. :D

Get one on ebay, every now and then one comes out new in box, sometimes they are even sealed. I picked one up a couple of weeks ago for £75 and love it to bits. (pics below!)

That's exactly what I intedn to do. Even worse with the black models (mine) as any surface damage is so much more noticeable.

I bought the 5.5G 80GB model when they came out and it is definitely my favourite iPod. I also have a 3G 40GB one which is near mint including box and all other parts - had to replace the battery recently but otherwise it still runs fine but the battery life of the 5.5G is much better and it plays video really nicely. Sure, the best it can output is 640x480 through S-video but it is dead easy to plug into a TV and looks just fine. Considered updating to an iPod Touch but the loss of capacity put me off, and the Classic doesn't seem like a good deal so I'll keep using the ol' 5.5G. Bought a Belkin case when they were available and that has protected it from all scratches and I also got the IR dock and AV cables set. The only thing that will replace it is an iPad which would be a serious upgrade. Otherwise, nope, great little device.

Another one checking in for the awesomeness of the 5G.

I have a black 5G that has been through hell and back over the last 4 years. It's been dropped, beaten, used for exercise (jogging for 40 minutes at a time), and sat in the car through numerous temperature extremes, and it still won't die.

I also have a white 5.5G that is nearly mint that I just started using regularly docked to my Bose sound dock

    I agree with the OP!
I bought an 80gb 5.5G as a graduation gift to myself (when I handed in my last piece of work the Yoshi's Island level completion music played :D). It has survived the 3 years since then and is still going strong. The battery is still great, there are no scratches. It's immortal this thing! The headphones are torn to pieces though.
I watch 1-2 episodes of TV on it a day before sleep. A day. Since I bought it. And the battery is still going for hours with video.

Unless Apple give us a 128gb iPod touch in September then I'll be sticking with it for another year. And even if they do I'll be using my 5.5G as a video-only device.

Sigh. I wish I still had mine....

My very first iPod and my very first Apple product was a white 60GB 5G (Video) iPod i Bought in 2005. Unfortunately, it was stolen--along with my MacBook, my iPod touch, and a bunch of DVDs--by a burglar last March.

It was one of my favorite gadgets I ever owned and it converted me to the Mac. :) Fortunately, my home insurance covered the financial loss and, as you can tell by my sig, I have replaced my stolen hardware. However, ever since the police told me they caught the burglar I started hoping again that I'll get it back. I still miss it. :(

I have the 5.5g 80GB Video iPod. It is still one of my favorite iPods of all time and the thing holds a charge like a champ. I put it in an invisibleshield and vaja case since the moment it came out of its box so its still in pristine condition. I take it running quite often and I still can't believe it still works.

I finally gave away my 5G 60GB iPod Video to a good friend this past weekend. It spent almost its entire life in an OtterBox, so the exterior was remarkably unscratched. The battery life was still great, and it has survived multiple drops (inside the OtterBox) from heights as much as 10 feet. I'll miss it, but I'll enjoy adding a 32 or 64GB compactflash to my iPod Mini (also built like a tank) just as much.

So true... I went from an original iPod straight to a 60GB 5G and still have both to this day. The 1G is special since it was the first, but the 5G was just amazing for it's time and has held up really well. I still use it to this day in a sound system. Just have to sync it every couple of weeks to add new music. It even gets to go outside every now and then when I'm doing yard work, and the battery life is still surprisingly good after so long.

It will no doubt go down as one of Apple's finest overall products ever.

    Gaps

I picked up a black 5.5 80GB a few months back. I love it but it suffers from millisecond pauses when tracks or videos are playing. Anyone else experienced this? Happens about 10 mins into any playlist.

I'm only seeing ones with heavily scratched backs. If the box is there it's usually in pretty bad shape to lol
