The thing was, 4G was supposed to be used for the new LTE technology that jumped past the best 3G could do (HSPA+)...AT&T stole the term, trying to look like the first to market, and effed it all up, instead creating confusion in the market, just like they’re doing now. What they were calling 4G was simply the best 3G could do, and they could have called it 3G+. Sure it was better, but it wasn’t 4G. So, when it was actually available, everyone else ended up calling it LTE or 4G LTE.
[doublepost=1553575804][/doublepost]I don’t think there is any legal basis...they’re all just marketing terms for the technology that is actually more complicated than just how fast it is. They just want people to think they’re first to market with it, but, now they’ve, again, instead created confusion.

Today, my Xs Max on AT&T with 2-3 bars of LTE in Colorado Springs I got over 100 mbps downloads from AT&T LTE (14 up), but at home with 1 bar LTE I get only 2 mbps download speed (0.4 up).

That's 2x faster than what a few people posted here with 5Ge

Not too bad, actually...

I’m in Folsom, CA.

Though I’m guessing it was the same before the update.

I’m still surprised that marketing departments get to label stuff they clearly don’t understand, but what’s most puzzling is how Apple could allow this?

With this logic we could have had Bluetooth 5 already at Bluetooth 4.2 or even 4.1 since it’s all about evolution...

AT&T says that in areas with these upgraded LTE technologies, customers can reach peak theoretical wireless speeds of up to 400 megabits per second, which translates to around 40 megabits per second in real-world usage.

Should be Megabytes, also, 1 byte is 8 bits, so 400 Mbits/s translates to 50 MB/s

I once worked at the corporate offices for the predecessor to AT&T, Cingular Wireless. They were so concerning to me as a customer at the time, that I changed while working there to a different carrier. I figured Verizon would screw me over, too, but at least I didn't know how, and I didn't write code for their systems that did the screwing. Horrible company.

I do not care. I know what 5Ge means. Not willing and will not think for others.

T-mobile and Sprint suck in my area, but they think about others, not about their networks.

I think we have more important problems in our society, like bring money back from offshores, pay taxes, so we can have better hospitals, schools, roads, social services.

MacRumors attacks “DeathStar” more than any other company.
What about fake mapping of others?
What about fake SlowCooker Union and the highest number of complaints per worker there(according to Union of Communication Workers) ?
T-mobile’s lack of postpaid eSIM?
T-mobile privacy?
Power generators?
Trump hotel?

Macrumors, are you paid by “Slowcooker”? Hope you are not.

We here are not affected, but I strongly believe that this is something where Apple should step in. To protect it's iPhone users.

AT&T doesn't write iPhone firmware, so they couldn't have made this change by themselves. In other words Apple is complicit.

Apple is just as guilty as AT&T.

Yup, it is super surprising that Apple intentionally added this as a listed update in the 12.2 documentation. It really goes against the grain of their publicly outward facing customer advocacy stance.

This isn't the only thing that AT&T is doing that is ridiculous. While comparing the channel layouts for their U-Verse serve, they list the marketing and junk channels like 'bathroom renovation', and 'treating baldness' as 'featured channels' that people should feel glad to shell out butt loads of cash for. And according to their 'guide', the lower paying tier doesn't get gifted with that junk.

I nearly laughed. So, I'm paying that much to support those channels too? I feel so special to have that avenue for them to market junk to me, and I'm paying for it too. Nice... Spam is a feature? I'd pay a little extra to be able to permanently block that crap from popping up every so often.

Money speaks my friend Tim Cook has no balls:D. I used to remember they demand things not the other way around.

Speedtest.net (which isn’t accurate) is showing ~85 down and ~15 up on 5Ge.

I have not been able to load speedof.me on ATTs network. Connection is terminated. Possibly blocking it.

Netflix fast is showing only 4.5 down which is getting throttled. I have unlimited and nowhere near their limit.

I have a theoretical suspicion that AT&T is run by a bunch of liars.

Personally what I find the most misleading is that map of the United States of America.
Aside from the other countries missing from North America, my question is when did Cuba get such great coverage from AT&T??!?
