I currently have AWS4 and was thinking about upgrading, since S6 or newer support 5GHz now.

Work situation:

In the pass I was able to connect to the “guest” network which was only 2.4 GHz and very limited. This is when I discovered that I could leave my phone anywhere in the building and still receive calls and texts. But now this network is useless.

Now when I use the main network they have both 2.4 and 5.0 networks with the same SSID, so can’t do the same thing I did before where I left my iPhone somewhere else.

So with a new AW would this feature work, since 5GHz is supported now? The network does require you to enter your email address and password to log in.

Thanks,
TiVoman

I wouldn’t expect so. The issue sounds like an authentication issue, not a frequency issue. If the 2.4Ghz network is active and working but not working with the AW then there is no reason to believe this would work over 5Ghz access to the same network.

Don't they have another SSID for guest network.

They do, but I have no idea what it is for, since nothing works. It is like setting up Wi-Fi and not connecting it to the modem. ;)
I don't understand what you want then. When 2.4GHz was guest network, it was fine. When it has its own dedicated SSID it is not.

What is the main reasons that you would need Apple Watch on the wifi while at work? As long as you keep your phone nearby you shouldn't really need or care whatever your watch is on wifi or not.

The main reason for connecting to Wi-Fi is so I could charge my iPhone at one central locatio. Can use a portable charger.

If I charge my main iPhone and keep iPhone 13 mini with me, I can get all calls and text messages via “calls on other devices” feature.

Interesting situation. You could always connect your apple watch via hotspot to your other phone that you carry with you. I do that often, when my wife and I go for a walk and don't feel like taking my phone, I will connect to my wife's iPhone's hotspot. Other question is, why you arrive at work with a phone that requires charging? Can you charge your phone prior / overnight, that way you dont have to worry about charging it?

LOL My phone is fully charged before I get to work, but sometimes I’m here more then 8 hours. To conserve battery usage, I’ll put the phone in airplane mode with just Bluetooth and Wi-Fi activated.
