I'm so excited about the Airpods. I've already experienced the wireless in-ear years ago when it required, I think, A2DP bluetooth compatible devices. The two ear phones, however, were still wired together, but Apple has taken the experience with Airpods to a new level.

Can I use the Airpods with my 5S without upgrading to iOS10? In other words, can I sync it like you would bluetooth?

I'm not even sure if an iOS10 upgrade on a 5S will slow things down.

Yes, you can pair them with any Bluetooth phone, not just iPhones so I would assume you should have no problem.

iOS 10 performs well on the 5S in my experience. And yes you need to update for the AirPods.
