I wanted to stop by the 5th Ave Apple store in nyc next Thursday evening to pickup a macbook. I know it's probably not the best time to go because there will be a line up 5 miles long for the new X midnight launch, however since I'm there to grab a mac, what are the odd's I'll get in? Anyone from nyc? Thanks,

I would call to confirm their store hours and make sure they're not closing early that night. If anyone is lined up it will be outside the store so regular shoppers can still go in and buy other products. And as far as I know, there isn't a midnight launch, the store will open earlier than usual in the morning at 8:00am.

As far as I know the 5th Ave store is 24hrs, so I’m assuming they’ll let people in at midnight to buy them. I called the store last week but they woudnt tell me anything regarding the launch, or if I’ll be able to purchase other products in the evening. I even asked how things went last year but they wouldn’t even answer that. I’m guessing they will have a separate line, but since the store is open 24hrs, what stops people from hanging around inside until it’s launched.
Worst time to drop by that store lol but unfortunately it’s when I’ll be there :/

I’m sure you’ll be able to get inside without a problem before 10pm, especially if you tell them you’re there to buy a MacBook on the spot. Apple wants your money! :D

There are seven Apple stores in Manhattan. The iconic 5th Ave location is under heavy construction and the store has moved into a smaller normal looking space behind where the glass cube used to be. Since you're visiting and maybe sightseeing, I'd recommend the new store in the Oculus (Westfield World Trade Center) or the one in Grand Central Terminal. If you want the fastest experience with no crowds, go to the Upper East + West Side locations or the large store in Chelsea (West 14th Street). Don't go to the SoHo one because it's small and always busy.

Thanks for the great info! I think I'll goto the Oculus or the Grand Central store. I didn't know Apple had that many stores downtown! I just assumed was the 5th Ave the only store in Manhattan, downtown anyways, but now that you mentioned it, I do remember a long while back Apple having a store right in the Grand Central Terminal.
