iPod 5th Gen. Classic frozen in Disk Mode

My iPod stopped working this summer after I dropped it. I had never tried to put it into Disk Mode until tonight. So I press the correct buttons and it says OK to disconnect. Then I hook it up to the computer. But there two problems: when iTunes is on it doesn't recognize the iPod and then it gets stuck on "Do not disconnect.

Does anyone know how to fix this?
I'm dying without my music 😛
