I have the LG screen and mine shipped yellow, but after calibration it's pretty neutral (maybe a bit cool, but that's okay with me).

I have the the chi mei and it was "slightly" yellow at first, Calibrated it and now it's not yellow. I think it depends how both the LG and Chi mei's come, and some are better than others from both it seems.

Mine from an angle is more blue than yellow.

Over the last few years I had purchased a 2.16 CD Macbook, a SR 2.2 MBP, and now a 2.8 Late08 MBP.. I have never had an issue with any of them, and they were all perfect the first time :)
So yeah, odds are you will have a good MBP experience too! :D

I am really shocked at the bad luck some of you guys have had. I was getting a little scared after ordering my MBP due to some of the threads here. Mine is absolutely perfect. Maybe I am just really lucky? I don't know...I just think its a little amazing that one person could have such bad luck that you have ended up with five defective machines. Good luck man, I hope you end up with one that is as nice as mine!

I've bought over 20 macs, heck maybe even over 30 now, for myself, my family and extended family, but especially my company the past 2 years... and I've had a similar experience once trying to buy a 2nd generation 2.8Ghz 17" MacBook Pro at the Apple Store.

In that one case, every single one of 4 or 5 replacements was shabby in some way that most other Macs I've purchased have never been.

I think the problem is that sometimes China poops out an entire "batch" that's faulty, so you go back to the store, and sure enough, all the replacements are in the same crapbatch. Know what I mean?

It's like when they have to do a meat or milk recall. It's not just one package that's bad, it's a giant bunch in a row 'cuz there was a problem on the assembly line somewhere that probably affected at least a few palettes of machines.

That said, when anyone runs into trouble like this, I say go refurb -- those pass through the hands of human techs in California. They tend to be extra perfect, and, of course, extra cheap. A good deal all around.

Of course, refurbs for the new machines won't be out for a few weeks. That'd the only catch.

Thanx guys... lol

The exchanges were not in a row because there was waiting in the meantime for thm to bring stock back...

And i went to Regents st. in London... which is the biggest and i was thinking that brings more stock in...

Hey Tom,
don't get me wrong, but I am glad I am not the only one having issues getting a "good" MacBook Pro. I thought I was just uber unlucky considering that there are a lot of people who don't have these issues or cosmetic flaws. I am starting to think that the batches that were shipped to the Regent Street and White City stores are bad batches. I also bought my MacBook Pro there and went through 5 replacements (6 MacBook Pros in total) and 2 refunds.

- 2 of them had loose bottom-covers
- 3 of them had dirt on them (could be rubbed off)
- 2 of them had scratches on top
- 1 of them had aluminum impurities
- 2 of them had dead pixels
- 2 of them had backlight bleeding issues
- all of them had yellow tinge issues, only one MacBook Pro had a slightly better screen, but it was still not acceptable. My 8 year old iMac G4 doesn't have a yellow tinged display, so why should my 2100 pound MacBook "Pro" do?

These MacBook Pros were 17" models and after the 4th, I decided to get a refund and see if the 15" high-res is maybe flawless, but I was mistaken.. the screen was even worse and it also came with a stuck pixel. The last MacBook Pro I looked at in-store was a 17" model again (this last time I went to the White City store), since the 17" model was the one I initially wanted, but again.. no luck with the screen, so I got one last refund and decided to wait. I have now ordered a custom MacBook Pro 17" over the telephone/internet Apple Store, to make sure that it will be a "new batch". I will try one last time and if this MacBook Pro isn't flawless, I will give Apple some real crap about it and wait for a new Mac Pro tower to come out... at least I won't have to worry about the screen being crappy lol.

If you are still up for it, maybe try the same: order online or over the telephone and see if the MacBook Pro they send you is fine, otherwise have the delivery guys pick it up again and sent back to Apple for a final refund. The only option then would be to go with a suitable alternative for a laptop or to wait for a few weeks/months for new batches to come out.

I'm pretty sure Tom has it worked out by now. This thread was started in November 2008. It was only resurrected by a newbie that didn't notice the thread was 2 years old. I'm not trying to be critical, just wanted you to know.

lol sorry, I didn't notice this was an old thread. I just read it and assumed it would be about the new MacBook Pros (not only because someone revived the thread, but also because I have exactly the same problem at exactly the same store.)

Isn't that nice? Two years later and that store STILL has issues?

Its ridiculous for the price we pay but then again nothing in those computers are made by apple(except os and aliminum top case & botom case) so its expected to fail since it is made by humans
