iPhone 12 Pro Max 5W charger and no wireless

Have to agree with the current consensus. Not common yet but will be one day. I use an 18w charger as does my wife and son.

I don't find there is any advantage to wireless charging, unless it is fixed somehow. Therefore I have also made my magsafe charger to a carmount, while I use cable at home.

Though I have 20W charger, I am mostly using 12W ipad charger, because I have long usb-a lightning cable (bought a usb-a to usb-c adapter, so I could use my 20W more often, but lost it right after recieving it 😣).

But the 12W is not bad at all. I think it is the natural sweetspot. It charges lineary all the way, without slowing down due to heat and almost as fast as 20W for longer charging and much faster than 5W at anytime, as gsmarenas testing shows:

I'm using a 10W iPad charger. A fair bit quicker than the 5W brick and doesn't heat the battery up compared with the 18/20W chargers. I tend to charge later in the evening or overnight so don't need fast charging. I can see the use for a fast charger if you need a quick top up during the day though.

Just wondering if anyone uses the 5W charger strictly to charge and not wireless charge?
Neither. For my 12 Pro, I found that the 5W charger charges very slowly, so I've been using a 12w charger for overnight charging.

For fast charging, I have an Anker 20W charger and a USB-C to lightning cable. According to iMazing, that charges at 9V 20W until it's 80% charged, then switches down to 5V 15W to finish the charge.

I don't think most real people use wireless charging. The most popular iPhone in my country is still the iPhone 7. I'm pretty sure the overwhelming amount of normal people use the 5W brick. It's just in tech communities wireless and fast charging is overrepresented.

I used to charge through official Apple 5w brick charger but now i am 100% wireless side, thanks to Magsafe
I even sold my 5w brick and cable because i dont want lightning anymore and fully embraced usb-c!
Lightning, worst thing ever done
Usb-c all the way!

My wife uses either a 5watt charger from her previous iPhone 6S+ or a 10watt iPad charger. Have not yet had the need to use a wireless charger.

Hmmm... Buy a wireless charger vs. use the 5w charger that came with every iPhone prior to late 2020 (or higher-wattage charger that came with an iPad)? What are the odds the majority of users will buy that extra item?

Now, if I needed to buy a charger... wired or wireless? I might try wireless to see how it goes.

I use a 20W Apple USB-C wall plug and a 6ft apple lightning cable for fast charging. Its very fast and in a pinch I get get a lot of juice. This is my secret weapon of choice when I'm low on battery and I want to do something on my phone or have to go out for a while and I need more battery. 15 mins and it's good enough.

But for any slower charging/overnight, I use the Belkin 7.5 special edition wireless charger. Optimized charging kicks in overnight so it doesn't damage the battery.

IMO, I think the internal regulation of power inside the iPhone and the software is more than efficient enough to not cause any battery degradation. Before this, I used to use the 5W apple charger for overnight and a 10W iPad charger for those quick boosts if I need it. Nothing has really changed for me other than the speed of these new chargers is much faster and the convenience of wireless charging is amazing. I go to bed and just lay the phone down and it charges. Then I wake up and pick it up and it's disconnected. Magic! lol

Exactly. Most people just use the chargers that came with their device. Until wireless chargers start shipping standard with phones, it won't be majority.

iPhone are sold by dozen of millions, while i found quite hypocritical from Apple at first
Now it seems better for any brand to remove charger for ecological purpose (carbon copy)
Keep in mind Nintendo was one of first to remove chargers as well
Buyers still continue to buy Nintendo consoles!
The only downside: please Apple remove this Lightning port and embrace usb-c port like everybody else

Me.

5W is not teribly slow on 12 mini.
My 18W warms up the phone enough to concerns me.
My 10W is not giving as much warm and much quicker than 5W, but I ended up using 5W regularly and use the 18W for quick charging when needed.

As much as I’m being curious about using Qi wireless and or magsafe, I haven’t try it yet due to heat concern.
Intend to keep my battery health on the prime condition as long as possible, because no Apple Store here in the country.

Will just say for myself that I used a 5W charger overnight up until very recently, on my 11. About a week after I got my 12 my 5W charger stopped working, so I used that an excuse to get a 20W brick since I had the USB C-lighting cable from my 12 anyway. It was a great purchase. Whilst I still think 5W charging overnight is fine, especially for models with bigger batteries that can last the whole day, the 20W charger really is great in a pinch. I have apple care plus and don't keep my phones for a super long time (1-2 years), so any extra battery health drain from using fast charging isn't an issue for me really since I'll usually upgrade before my battery health drains low, and if it ever reaches 80% within 2 years I'll get a replacement through apple care plus.

As for wireless charging/magsafe. I'll consider it once it matches or exceeds 20w wired charging. 1st gen magsafe 15w charging doesn't interest me in the slightest. But I look forward to seeing what improvements apple can make to magsafe charging in the 2nd generation.

The sole reason I decided to charge with the 5W charger is so I can maintain the highest battery health as possible for the longest time. Would this make sense?

Besides, my 12 Pro Max battery life is amazing anyway...I end the day usually with around 30-40 percent left. I only ever charge it overnight.

Using the 5w charging will work fine. My wife does and it works well for her.

It makes sense, but is hardly necessary. There’s way too much concern about batteries around here. Worst case scenario, you just pay for a battery replacement when needed. Enjoy the phone today. Tomorrow will worry about itself.
