...It can't be a skimmed down version of the iPhone.

After having a play with the Huawei P20 Pro today in store (my bro picked one up recently), it's form factor fit nicely in my hand (for one hand use) & the screen wasn't too wide/tall for my fingers. It also fit in my pocket comfortably.

So, I was never going to upgrade my X to a 2018 iPhone, which is good because the 6.1" version isn't going to be up to scratch, spec-wise.

I'm now really hoping the 2019 6.1" iPhone will match the 5.8" & 6.5" in specs. Does anyone think it will???

It never will. Will always be a budget model. Will have the same processor though.

Oh cmon! Never?

I think the 6.1" will be the next 5.8". Not this year, but maybe 2019. If its resolution suites full screen videos at original aspect ratio without cropping, then it should be the standard form factor imo.

We don’t know even if there will be a 6.1” iPhone, let alone whether it will be lower spec one or not. We don’t even know if there will br a 6.5” one. Apple hasn’t announced anything and all these big new phone rumors are just - rumors.

So, wait and see.

Based on current rumours, never!
It will be a lot cheaper and designed to be so, no dual camera unless the top models move to triple ones, no OLED, other features will also be lacking, possibly it’ll lack water proofing and stereo speakers.

Sorry, but it’s designed as a cheaper device, if you want an idea of what I’ll be like look at the new iPad and the iPad Pro.

It could be catered towards the Asian market in general, which I honestly can't speak to what kind of specs would be ideal there (aside from larger screen) - but I wouldn't necessarily assume it will eventually replace the 5.8" version, especially if it's being launched as a lower spec, less expensive version, from the start.

Helped set up a Huawei P20 Pro today.
the 6.1" is definitely my ideal screen size. There's no doubt about it in my mind.

Possibly good news for you, Pocket Now Daily have heard rumours that all iPhones will have OLED screens, but if that’s the case it means what else will they cut back on to differentiate between the devices?

Not likely, plus that model won’t be guaranteed to receive annual upgrades like the rest of the lineup, just look at the SE. And even if it did, some features would be better and some not than the previous year’s flagships.

I don’t know that I would compare the iPhone SE, that really was an entirely different device that Apple introduced affordably as possible in their lineup (Lacking features like 3D Touch, water resistance, ect) . And I think some missed the point of of the iPhone SE, that was to be a global iPhone where smart phones are extremely expensive in other countries.
