What is all this fluff? The OS? And if not, can I clear some of it?

If you load files in certain application (like videos in VLC, PDFs in Goodreader...) then they appear in the other category. This can be significant.

a common thing that I've noticed is the items i load in iBooks. i have a ton of .pdf files there.
