I bought a "Geeksquad refurb" from Best Buy. Apple Watch 10. It just arrived yesterday (battery usage was at 100% but the battery saver feature was turn on for unknown reasons when I first booted up the watch) and I upgraded to 26.4 (took almost an hour).

The battery was around 98% when I went to bed at 10pm. I woke up at 4 am and it notified me that it only had 4% battery life left. I already restarted the watch after the update to 26.4 completed.

What caused this?

I have brightness set to 100% and "Always on" and no outside apps aside from the Steps app. I literally sat on my couch, watched t.v., and then went to bed.

Anyone else experiencing this and if so how to fix?

edit: This could be my 50 year old eyes...but the screen seems kinda dim too (brightness turned up to 100%). I'm coming from an Apple Watch 4 and the Apple Watch 10 seems about the same or slightly dimmer in terms of brightness.

edit2: I was browsing a few Reddit threads and someone said when they turned off the WiFi on their watch, battery life improved significantly. I work from home and that Reddit thread said it affects people who work from home because the watch is always connected to WiFi.

If I turn off WiFi...what won't I be able to do? Do I even need it? I like to see the current temperature and view my text messages. But that's about the extent of the WiFi usage.

Can't the Apple Watch just piggyback off the iPhone for internet needs and transmit that data over bluetooth (hence negating the need for WiFi)?

edit3: I solved the brightness issue by turning on "Minimum Brightness" in Accessibility.

I'd suggest you wait a couple of days and reassess your battery performance. Any time you update to a new OS version, there is indexing and other housekeeping processing going on in the background that will increase battery drain.

What is the battery health on your new watch?

Battery health is at 100%.

The battery itself was 100% 1-1/2 hours ago. It's now 89% after sitting in my home office desk.

Think you've got a bad Watch. I've got a 10 that I bought 1+ years ago and do not have these issues. At worst, will lose 50% in the span of a day, 40% is typical for me. Battery still 100% health.

That said, I do not have always on on, not big on any apps that are constantly polling for data (read: weather apps, anything Meta generating notifications/alerts/content, news/info feeds), no music played via Watch.
