What i miss natively on the AW:
A native audio/memo recorder.

Able to read out your GPS location by a native app.
(You are hiking/lost without a phone and use a public phone for example

Just Press Record.

Also, the 2nd point.. if you have LTE watch you could try emergency dialing. It’ll send your location along I believe.

I dont have a record app on my apple watch, at least i looked but i dont see any. which one you refer to?

You mean the one for SMS? thats not a good solution at all, then i am forced to SMS myself a recorded memo. This Apple Watch has 16 GB of storage, surely there is a way to have a native recording app like on the iphone.

Emergency dailing is good IF the situation requires it..
But why cant we not just have a little app, you click on it, it takes a few secs to determine your exact location including the street name? i dont need a full fledged google maps or such but the watch capabilities are just left untouched for a very large part in lots of areas.

Sorry but your tips are bad work arounds in my opinion, not to attack you or anything.

Search for Just Press Record app on App Store. It’s awesome. It’s synced to iCloud.

I need to use Just Press Record for now. Really hope that Apple can ship this feature with the OS.

Is that a thirdparty tool or from apple?! if its the latter i dont understand it did not ship with the AW itself. thats pretty bad from apple in that case if we need to download bits and pieces of official apple software that are part of the apple watch seperately.

i just searched it and its a thirdparty software. My problem is the AW ships very barebones for the price you pay. We can patch it by adding thirdparty apps, but apple themselves give us minimal in house developed software for the AW, little useful tools like the mentioned press talk.

Why does it come on the Iphone/ Ipad but not on the AW, they could just give us the same software tool they use for their iphone (calculator, recorder, calendar and a few others)

I know the answer, the iphone is really meant as a dumb terminal that just relay messages from the iphone, Apple does not want us to use it as a standalone device or worse in combination with other brands (hence the forced pairing with a iphone before you can even use the AW)

Its a great device but i cant call it a true Smart Watch if it relies for most of its stuff on the Iphone while its more then capable to do it on its own. But that is intentional design by Apple, either i live with it or move on i guess.

This is the only thing I can relate to in your list of complaints. It seems odd that voice memos doesn't have a native app. I bought 'Just Press Record' and it has a nice Apple Watch version.

Technology wise it will take some time for the watch to be standalone.

As for your second opinion Apple is always like that. It’s the core of Apple philosophy: Integration. Their products & services rarely work with other manufacturers. The recent announcement of TV app working with other devices is the exception not the norm. This is why I like Apple products and why many hate them. You will adjust and appreciate it, or move on. Nothing’s wrong with either scenario.

To give a few concrete examples, the date widget/ notification on my watch. If i click on the date nothing happen. Would have been nice that the apple watch 4 WIFI/LTE has at least a simple calander that can show the entire month, ideally with all public holidays marked.

Totally agree - The calendar is a missed opportunity for the AW - I use my watch quite a lot to see next appointment, address for the customer etc., but if they suggest a time-change for example it would be great to be able to see more than a few days ahead

I love the AW though, the fact i wear it all day long every single day, and use it extensively to track my movement, its a great device, but next time i safe myself some money on not buying LTE.

I run quite a lot and when running or walking with the dog, LTE is at it's absolute best. Being able to stay in touch in case needed, and still be without a phone is amazing (I simply HATE running with a phone strapped on my arm)

All you have to do is say "hey siri, where am I?" It gives the address.

Apple is no longer in the business of putting bloatware on its devices. Most people would use their phones to record conversations so I don’t understand the issue. Apple Watch only has so much storage and memory so I’m glad they left it off

The Apple Watch will display the entire calendar I use it daily

Well thats your opinion, but those are minimal native apple software. You clearly dont use your watch standalone often, so you cannot understand people do that often when they go fitness etc, and being to record something that popped up in your mind would be fantastic. recordings are super tiny btw, did you ever used the app?

Sure you can say you can buy a app from the store to do that, but then you might as well use that analogy for iphones and remove all those basic apps we are talking about and let people buy them from the app store instead.

Because they are such bloatware....... Default Calendar, recorder and a few others. I sometimes think people just post here for the sake of posting stuff to be relevant?!

After testing some more, i do see the calendar also when not connected to the iphone, so it seems to work, i have to take this part back, yes you can label it as a calendar but its function is basically to show the alerts of that day from the iphone calendar only.

You cant browse to other months, you cant select another day off that same month.

Its really a notification app from the iphone then a calendar that can be used on its own when out and about to check holidays in the upcoming months or other simple task when someone birthday is.

For you this might be fine, i think this is not a proper calendar solution for the AW.

I dont want to create calendar invites from my AW, i want to be able to view dates of various months for some visual inspection that helps me to plan things in advance and see if they are going to conflict, often these kind of things pop up in my head when doing 3 hour hikes, when i dont carry my phone on me.

the AW is great, it motivates me to be very active. But i feel its a bit lackluster and more in line with a fitbit instead of a smartwatch.

Then open the calendar and try to look for an event April 30th or start May. Not possible

Very little simple things like this kind of pieces off added software features on the Apple Watch would have been nice.

Just a few bones for us, so the Apple watch is not a pure proxy for the Iphone that can display messages of your iphone or act as a remote for your iphone.

But has something additional to stand on its own either WIFI or LTE Model.

The selfie camera mode is dope, i use it sometimes to check on my son when he is in the other room, to play with him a bit haha, its kinda a cool spy gimmic for fun and giggles, can fee like james bond)

Actually Line and WeChat is more populair here, but my point is not that whatsapp sends only notifications, the thing is its a bit unreliable at doing so for me in my experience. Messages dont always come through on the watch.
What’sapp notifications work really well on Apple Watch. They always come through. I also have a third party what’s app client on my Apple Watch called watchchat. I can see all my what’sapp conversations and can initiate messages, rather than just reply to incoming notifications.
