    A couple of questions:

    1) Why the heck do you want to put in extra oil? Even if the engine will be ok with it, you're just gonna have to pay more to dispose of it next time you change it.

    2) Why the heck do you hang out there...we are so much cooler than them.

I don't want to add an extra quart necessarily; I was just curious if it would hold an extra quart without causing a problem. :)

I agree, there is no comparison between BC and MacRumors. ;)

I agree with that Wil guy on the other forum. Won't putting more oil in just cause problems?

Don't you see anything wrong with the way he responded to a simple question that could've been answered by Yes or No? ;)

With the plethora of fertile trolling grounds offered by the growth of modern communication technology, what is the draw of auto maintenance? Was it simply an underserved niche, or are shade tree mechanics really that fascinating?

I go there to pick up any relevant information pertaining to the GM 3800 V6, but the site is a real drag to stay there for any length of time. ;)

Buy an oil cooler, and if it has one buy a bigger one. If you really are concerned about getting your oil cooled.

An extra quart is a lot of extra oil for most engines. Many, if not all, can hold another half quart or so without causing any problems, but there is little benefit. The only tangible benefit I see would be if your engine burns or leaks oil, then you wouldn't have to check the level as often, or top it off.

It's common for e36 m3 owners to put 7-8 quarts in their cars. but it's a tried and true method that i use myself. Without knowing anything about your car I can not recomend it.

The purpose of this thread was to bring to attention the staunch differences in behaviour between people of a car forum and the people of a computer forum. The level of education between the two different classes of people was readily apparent as soon as I read iMeowbot's post. ;) :p

Over at Bonneville Club, I was roasted in flames by an administrator (whom goes by the name of willwren) for raising the seemingly preposterous question of adding an extra quart of oil to an engine designed with a sump capacity of 5 quarts including filter. :D

I've come to realise that I'm much happier to be among the friendly people here at MacRumors that share my same frame-of-mind. :)

you owned him in this post :D
and the images in the sigs are really annoying.

also, he talked about reading the Owner's manual. I'm sure the owners manual says something like DO NOT MODIFY THIS VEHICLE somewhere...

MR is the best place to be :D

I wouldn't mind a tiny image in my sig just to help identify my posts since I can't have an avatar but I've seen it get out of hand in certain forums.
I've just rechecked the forum that's linked to and not only are the sig images low quality, subsequent posts don't have them turned off.

I'm always pleased by the quality of posts and discussions on MR. :)

My letters are in purple, so that makes it a little easier for me.

But that said, it also helps when you have a bright red heart for an avatar.:)

Ah but mad jew posts because he enjoys being here and enjoys helping people with their Macs; willwren posts because he's a paid administrator who hates his life for having to spend 8 hour shifts listening to people like me ask ridiculous harmless questions. :p

Comparing mad jew to willwren is like comparing Michael Scofield to Mr. Kim ;)
