The article doesn't state if those sold but not delivered yet are included in this or whether it's just those that have walked out of the stores in customers hands/been delivered.

Either way it's not a bad result for Apple...

Anyone willing to bet against apple hitting an all time high in the market on monday? lol

    Interesting...

Now, let's see if there's a drop in sales (or fall below predictions) of the high-end 64Gig iPod Touch, the basic Mac Mini, and the White MacBook...

I don't know why this would surprise anyone. Apple is good at what it does. That is it invents things that people love and will use.

Face it folks, Apple is growing so big that it's gonna be the next Skynet. It's gonna take over our lives. (of course in a funish way) lol

That number is very squishy. Take sales at one store in Manhattan (of all places) and extrapolate to nationwide? Um, no. I think we'll get real numbers early next week from Apple.

And with many stores still having stock and Best Buy getting tons more than the original 15 each, I can't figure the 9 day delay in recent pre-orders, either. Unless there was fear of a production slowdown that didn't happen?

Why is it squishy? He said his team counted more people standing in line at the that store than for the previous iphone launches, plus he is also counting the pre orders and this thing has been available for pre orders for awhile now. I wouldn't be suprised if that number holds true.

Once the pre order ship date was moved up to the 12th, the first 500K were gone. It has been reported that the first shipment of iPads was for the amount of 700K, which would leave 200K for walk in sales.

According to reports from all over the country people were not camping out overnight everywhere. It has been published multiple times that Best Buys were only getting 15 units each. As of today we have reports of Best Buys getting them in the 100's.

I suspect that the estimate of 600K would be accurate and that the rest will be gone before the 12th when part of the second shipment of 1 Million units starts getting delivered.

Well, that makes it a bit 'harder'. I wasn't aware we had firm numbers for the size of the preorder population. As we all said, the large BB shipments sure are different from expected.

... And Munster is not factoring what's sold ALONG with the iPads (Apple Care, iPad accessories, etc.).
Expecting AAPL to go up even more this coming week!

I can imagine the iPad eating into some of those sales too.

Let's face it, while email and web browsing on a 3.5" screen are a novel idea, they really aren't practical. Yeah, I know kids can text 165 WPM but for business people today's current devices aren't that friendly.

The touch screen tablet in the iPads form factor is pure genius. The screen is the perfect size for portable web browsing, email, and video. The minimalist light weight design has it all over a notebook and don't forget it is an iPod as well.

When the next revision comes out with a faster CPU, better OS and of course a built in camera at the top for video conferencing, you will see the tablet platform start to eat up notebook market share.

I don't think that current 3G is good enough for video conferencing, and we should see the iPad with a built in camera when all of the major carriers have stable 4G networks.
