64 Bit Java on Lion?

I have a 2011 Mac Mini, and I've noticed that Java is very "iffy", especially with Minecraft, which apparently demands 64-bit Java. I went into Java Preferences and switched the order so that x64 is the first on the list, but that didn't help.
