For me it is, came from a 32 ipad 2. Now that the ipad is my primary "computer" (I use that term very loosely) since I'm getting ready to sell my macbook pro

16 GB, Does just fine for me, I will say it isn't worth buying a 64 GB unless you're storing alot of stuff to it and need the extra storage.

When I saw they upgraded the battery life on the Wifi Drive I got really excited. Not to mention for traveling or in the car with kids since you can have mulitple devices and crossplat form.

not even for just the iPad, but for having that as a general hard drive too. would of been better if it was a TB, but I'm sure it'll be double the price.

its a nice external HD to compliment my regular TB external hard rive

edit: i want more space because i need to kill time when i go on them long flights that r like 8-10 hours

I have a 64 GB iPhone, but went with the 32 GB iPad. The main difference is music. I generally don't listen to music outside of my car, so I store all of it on my iPhone. But I don't have any of it on my iPad. The main thing I will add to my iPad is family photos. But I will most likely be downsizing them to the iPad's resolution, so they won't take up THAT much space. We'll see - I may regret not going with the 64 GB, but I doubt it.

4g too?

I have a 64GB iPhone 4S and my previous iPad 2 was a 64GB version. I only used 3GB on both of them and have regretted putting out $100 for the extra storage that I'll never use. This time I went with the 32GB iPad 3, and after loading all of my apps and pictures on it, I still have 25.9 GB of storage left. That is more than enough to meet my needs until the next iPad comes out.

You definitely get most bang/buck with the 16 GB, as the 64 GB module costs Apple only a few bucks extra but they charge $200 for it!

That said, sounds like the 16 GB is suboptimal given the size of HD apps and media you'd like to store on the thing.

My guess is Apple only keeps the 16 GB in the repertoire so they have something really inexpensive to offer and can brag that the iPad only costs $499, when really they themselves consider that model as having suboptimal storage for the average user.

I got the 64 GB one because my employer pays for it. Personally I think Apple ought to be ashamed for letting people pay a bonus (as in more than what its hardware is worth) for getting the top-of-line device. Instead they should reward it, but no.

I never think it's worth it for the top model of anything. Unless you really really want it or need it, it's never worth it. For example, that extra $100 you spent you most likely not get back when reselling.

For $100 more, you get double the storage. The 64gb is worth it in my opinion.

I've read (though not confirmed personally) that the 64 GB flash module only costs Apple a few dollars (<$10) more than the 32 GB module. If that is true, it is a ridiculous rip-off.

I had the 64GB iPad 2. I had about 20 or so standard def movies (Digital Copies) on there before I got it filled up. If they weren't loaded, I never ran out of space. Not even close.

Which, as far as I'm concerned, is the entire point: you'll be choosing which media you want to carry around with you way less often the more space you have. Literally, the only thing I "manage" any more is which movies are synced. That's it.

Interesting, but irrelevant. If you could upgrade your own storage, it might be a valid point, leading you to find another source for the memory. But you can't. You pay what Apple charges, so the only thing that's relevant to the discussion is what you have to pay and how much you get. The first upgrade is $100 and it doubles your memory. The second upgrade of $100 quadruples it. Clearly, the 64GB version is a better "value" than the 32GB version. Whether or not you think you will USE the extra storage you paid for is up to you. I don't, but as I mentioned above, I'm paying for the convenience of not having to manage what's on the device. It's all with me, all the time.

The 64GB model is made up of 2 32GB flash memory, consider you can pickup a 32GB micro sd card for $30, I'm sure Apple get them much cheaper buying bulk.

The 64GB ipad is the one Apple makes most % of profit and 16GB the lest. But if you need the storage space then there really is not another option. I personally got 32GB as I can easily re-download big game apps as I need them.

As I said: ridiculous.

would u really be that surprised? apple charges 200 dollars for a ram upgrade which u can do it yourself and buy the actual ram for 50 dollars. probably even less now

Thanks, I never heard about that. But it is highly plausible since Apple buys ram and storage in bulk quantities.

That said, while an interesting fact, it is irrelevant for making your decision since you can't upgrade the storage in your own iPad. One could also make the argument that since the iPad costs Apple around $300+ dollars and it is selling them for twice that much, it is a ridiculous rip-off and no one should buy one.

See what I mean?

Personally I feel that if you are paying so much for the ipad you mind as well get the best, 700 is better than spending 600, run out of space, resell it at a loss then having to pay the difference.

In other words, its better to get the right capacity in the first place.

The best resale value goes to 16GB. I went 32GB and I should be fine untill next year when I upgrade to the 64GB. If you want to Jam HD Movies go with the 64GB or better yet get the Seagate Goflex Satlellite 500Gb Wifi dirve. They just upgraded it to 7 hours on a charge.

where do i find the upgraded drive that has up to 7 hours of battery life????

i can only find the old 5 hour one.

After loading more apps and home movies of the kids that I took with my iPhone 4S on the 32GB that I had it brought it down to less than 20GB so I decided to return it while I still had 3 days left. Today I purchased the AT&T, 64GB 4G iPad 3 from my local Target. Called Apple Care when I got home and they added AC+ for me right over the phone. I received a confirmation email within one hour. Even though I thought I could get by for a year with the 32GB 4G model, I guess for only $100 more it is worth it knowing that I don't have to worry about running out of space for hopefully more than a year. :)

The first season of Game of Thrones in 1080p barely fit on my 32GB with my others apps so it went back for a 64GB.
