Just read an article on another site, from a well-known Apple & Google twitter tipster.

This person believes ALL five iPhone 12 models will include a 64 Mpx image sensor in the Back Wide Camera.

I did alittle research into it, & then hit a snag with the logic behind it.

Much of what Apple has done with the native camera the past few years is capture a Burst of Photos, then quickly post-process them in the ISP, & output a single photo.

To do that requires a Fast Data Rate out of the image sensor.

So here is the dilemma, the 64 Mpx image sensors ALL have a very limited data rate !

Can someone who knows this topic well chime in on this thread, & educate ALL of us on this very important topic ?

To my knowledge, NO ONE who writes for MR has even hinted that ANY of the iPhone 12 models "could" include a 64 Mpx image sensor in the Back Wide Camera.

I first got wind of the possibility six months OR so ago, when other leading smartphone manufacturers were doing it, & then basically forgot about it (till today, & ONLY because of the tipster's expectations).

False. They were testing a 64 megapixel sensor for a few weeks but weren't happy with the results. They are sticking with 12 megapixels. The lenses will be upgraded, a new stabilization system will be used and it will stabilize all cameras now and there are rumors the Pro Max will get a larger sensor for the main camera.
