I live in the desert SW. When I checked Apple's site it showed that the 21 nearest Apple stores are out of stock. So are Best Buy and Target.

Is it really this popular or is this the chip shortage?

Apple.com shows just two days for new orders. Amazon has 32 GB available for same day delivery.

Here is a warning if people do not already know , do not use promotional credits for something at amazon then cancel the order, you will not get refunded the credits. I had to yell on the phone for over an hour and speak to multiple people to get them back because it is not a clear policy

Chip shortage is mostly the real cause. If you paid attention last year and this year, you can't find any PS5, XBOX X Series, Switch, Nvidia and AMD Video cards, and so on. I've been on the lookout for a Nvidia 3080 card and can't find any outside prebuilt systems.

Even cars are affected by it as they sit in lots waiting on the chips. At $179 and $199, I seriously doubt it's popular outside die hard Apple fans. Most consumers will buy the cheaper alternatives like Roku or Google tv.

I have the 2017 64G version and I'm kinda debating if the newer one is worth it.

I finally got one at Target. Redcard discount + employee discount from a relative.

I had a 1st gen. 4K, but wanted the 2nd gen. so I could use my HomePods with my TV.
