Will there be a 64GB iPod touch in the fall?

I think 64GB may come next year. Going from 8GB to 64GB in one year is going too fast. Apple wants to keep the Touch alive for as long as possible. I think in the fall we'll see elimination of 8GB and price drop on 16 and 32.

First; you can never be to fast!

Second; the price is to high now so you may well be correct speculating about a price drop.

There is another segment of the market that "want's it all" but 64 Gigs won't be enough for them, thus the giant HD based classics.

And I'd be one of those people. When Apple releases a 128GB iPT (which wont be for quite a while yet) I'll be there with my credit card, but up until that point the iPod Classic does just the job for me.

I'm just glad they finally came out with the new 32GB option. Finally. My 30GB iPod is just fine with me, but when they introduced an 8GB touch with no mail capabilities or calendar add cabilities, i looked the other way.

Now, Mail has been added, the Calendar add has been enabled, the system is up to 30+GB (with a hefty price tag) and iBank 3 will work with it. Not too shabby by any means. :D

is it wrong to think that part of what prompted this was creative's 32gb flash player?

I mean apple needs to keep an edge on the mp3 market, so I don't see why they wouldn't be aiming for a 64gb touch in the fall.

i think an 8 gig was too small.

a 16 gig right for a lot of people.

32 gig right for most of the rest.
Yeah, but the point I was making actually is it doesn't matter what you think about it (or me for that matter). It's about what the market as a whole wants.

8 Gigs is the (current) "sweet spot," and all the personal opinions posted here to the contrary are basically irrelevant.

I would agree because the iPod nano tops out at 8GB and that is the most popular media player in the world.

agreed. They don't even have flash that has that kind of capacity commercially available yet, why would we need a slot?

Wait we have SD cards at 16gb going for like at least $70 at newegg. Is that not enough considering you can swap out cards easily?

I would say by October, essentially 2x32Gb where as now we have 2x8Gb

I hope a 64GB ISNT released. Here in australia the 32GB is $619!!!! so unless they cut the 8GB one and drop the prices of the touches to their previous less capacity counterparts prices ( Like 16GB becomes 8GB's price and 8 GB is cut) then the 64GB is likely to be $700!! Which just wont and shouldnt happen.

If a 64 GB is released, you can be sure by then there will only be two or three teirs of iPod touch. In fact I think by then you'll see the nano's become the new 8 GB touch (smaller, with macbook case like i described in another thread) and then the others become the normal touches (32 and 64).

Fall?
Doubtful.
10-12 months maybe.

I might be interested in a 64GB iTouch, myself, at $400, but as it stands now, not. The Nano is perfect for my needs.
