Spec for Spec they're cheaper than any Windows machine available.

Er, not really. Usually when they launch with new components they're priced competitively but Apple sticks to their prices when other manufacturers have dropped theirs months down the line.

Prove it....

Exactly thought you couldn't.

There is no Windows computer spec for spec cheaper than an Apple computer.
If you believe there is, show me the evidence, but good look searching for the rest of your life for that evidence, because it doesn't exist. Its a topic thats been exhaustively reviewed on this forum already.

The Screen on this laptop is only 14.1" not the Macbook Pro's 15"
The screen has a lower resolution than the Macbook Pro
This Asus uses DDR2 RAM the Macbook Pro uses DDR3 Ram
This Asus only has a 6 Cell battery, the Macbook Pro has a 9 cell battery
This Asus weighs half a pound more than the Macbook Pro
This Asus doesn't come with a Magsafe Adaptor
This Asus runs Windows and not OS X
This Asus is made from cheap plastic and not a beautiful aluminum unibody
The Macbook Pro has a backlit keyboard, this Asus, doesnt!

So i guess you were wrong, more?

Here are a few reasons why the PC may be better than a Mac:

- Do you use your computer to play games? Forget the iMac or any machine running MacOS then. Use Windows.
- Windows use ClearType, a Microsoft technology, to put fonts on the screen which are much sharper and easy on the eyes than MacOS anti-aliasing technology (which, on the other hand, has the advantage of not distorting fonts on the screen).
- Windows has much more software to run. MacOS does not have Nero Burning ROM.
- Software which is translated from Windows is much slower and sluggish than the Windows counterparts. See Firefox or uTorrent.
- Don't expect too much of Microsoft products. Wanna run Internet Explorer? You've got version 5.0, from 2001 (I guess), for PowerPC only. Wanna run Messenger? You've got the brand-new version 7, from 2008, which still doesn't support webcam. Wanna run Microsoft Office? Well, you've got Office 2008, whose Word hogs 150-200 MB of RAM when opened (against 30 MB of Word 2007 for Windows). In addition, Office 2008 does not work well with Spaces - in a very irritating way.
- Macs are more expensive despite all those disadvantages!

You can install Windows on ANY Mac using Bootcamp so all that was rubbish
Macs are cheaper spec for spec than any Windows machine.

Windows 7 will make the Windows experience better - but MacOS Snow Leopard will be so much faster, and it will bring so many new exciting technologies!

Windows 7 is awful, worse than Vista in my opinion, have you actually tried it? Its only advantage is that its slightly faster, its system of minimizing Windows to the task bar sucks big time, you dont know which Window is which and the workflow process is slowed massively.

Specs are definitely not the same. But does this stuff above justify more than doubling the price tag?

In addition, I don't think that running OS X is a spec that should be taken into consideration. Only Apple hardware is supposed to run OS X and no computer would ever have the same specs due to licensing restrictions.

Same size screen, same resolution, DDR3 is new (applies to Apple being a better value when new) with the grand you'll save buy a 9 cell battery, wahhh, wahhhh, wahhhhhhhhhh, WAHHHHHH and the backlit keyboard is largely worthless.

That told, I use an iMac.

Ok so you can buy OS X for the Asus and install it yourself using an EFIX card, its not illegal, its going to cost you $300 minimum though extra. And all those extra features are worth an extra $700, you dont have to double the price.

Still not comparable to any Mac spec for spec on a price analysis. Stop making me laugh.
Your comparing some cheap plastic Asus to an Aluminum Mac! Your basically comparing Fermented Moose Urine to Champagne and trying to justify the cost difference.

Or you can install it without an e-FIX, so just the price of Leopard.

So you'd rather have two pieces of plastic **** running Windows than one gorgeous aluminum Macbook Pro running OS X?

Believe it or not, Apple's made plastic laptops in the past (and present) It's not as nice as aluminum but it certainly isn't "****"

I'd rather have a MacBook Pro but it's silly to deny that there are (many) better values out there than Apple's offerings on a spec by spec basis.

but there aren't...

Find me a laptop with the EXACT same spec as the Macbook Pro for a lower price, you can include the cost of OS X too and i'll officially call myself an idiot. It's simply not possible.
All you have to do is make a poll "Asus for $1200 or Macbook Pro for $2000" and see which will win....

Show me a MacBook that has a 9700M in it. It simply isn't possible.

I'm not saying you can find a carbon clone of a MacBook Pro for less but you can find PC's that are cheaper and have similar or better specs.

Most importantly I matched the processor, hard drive and graphics chip for $1,200 less.

And I didn't look hard.

Looks like your getting SMOKED hehe:D

Your comparing a Mac to an Asus, please, this is getting pathetic.

I don't really think that you can argue that macs aren't more expensive, they just are. I think that they are worth the difference in price though.
So to some up. Are macs more expensive? Yes.
Are they better value for money? Absolutely.

I never said they were 'better' i said they were cheaper spec for spec.

i would love to see you show some examples to prove that. I have not problem agree with you on this--when you show me some examples.

PS. so I guess there is no argument that PC CAN BE much cheaper as a unit, right?
