Xbox one - 7 letters
Xbone - 5 letters..... ;)

I had no clue you meant the Xbox One, so either I was being stupid, or the abbreviation is not that obvious. Probably the former ;-)

"Xbone" is actually a derogatory term, created by individuals to mock both the name (as it's actually the 3rd Xbox, so calling it "One" makes no sense to techies thinking of versions) and the device itself (by people who disagree with Microsoft's approach to including media center features in a game console). I guess they imagine it as a toy that their Xdog would fetch and bury.

"X1" is shorter and carries much less connotation. Just don't confuse it with Comcast's DVR.

780M is already used in laptops...no reason NOT to be included in the next imac upgrade

Given the relative performance differential, the reason not to include it is that it doesn't really help. I'm sure Apple is urging Nvidia to do better and provide some kind of 780MX/790M, so that they don't need to post a chart in the performance section of the 2013 iMac brochure that screams "2% faster graphics!"

790M i think does not exist, or maybe with the imac will come..but they have to upgrade the imac to wifi ac, haswell, PCIe and if they do i think will have to put the 7xxM series..i dont see the next imac upgrade with the same chips like 650M or 680MX

Oh I agree. Presuming they don't swing back to AMD, you'll see 7xxM series chips in this year's iMac update. But there is no current offering that would offer significant improvement over the 680MX, and Apple is surely beating on Nvidia (and perhaps AMD) to come up with something.

With new drivers and stable overclock, maxing out with no AA, triple buffering with v-sync and running native resolution :D I don't see how this could get any better.

There is somebody who plays starcraft 2 or league of legends with 680MX on Mountain lion? Native resolution+everything max you have constant 60fps?

P.S Remember only in MACOS, im not interesting on bootcamp

I play SC2 in OS X with max settings and native resolution on my 27" 680MX iMac. Plays very well. Not sure how to determine FR in the game, though.

Bioshock Infinite & Darksiders 2

Hey guys,

Two things:

1. If you have Bioshock Infinite, and you haven't finished it, finish it. The game in it's completed form is simply fantastic. Also, it runs really nicely with the 680mx.

2. Darksiders 2 is currently on sale on Steam, 80% off, if you like actions/adventure/RPG type games, or just enjoyed the first Darksiders, buy it. It's wicked!

Hey all,

My name is James, and I'm a PC user :D

I don't do too much on my current setup other than browse, get email, webcam chat with the parents across the country, and the occassional game of Torchlight 2 and Starcraft.

I've been wanting to switch to Mac for a few years, and next year (around tax return time - February) I plan on purchasing a new machine. I'm leaning towards Mac just because I know if there are Windows programs I need to run I can do so in Bootcamp.

My hesitation comes in gaming. I know no one knows for sure, but typically when do iMac's refresh? Looking at the store now, I like what I see, especially because of the discount I get from where I work. Also, should I worry about gaming on a Mac? I currently use a Nvidia 9800 GTX+ and haven't had any issues at all.

Hi Ethere,

If there is going to be a refresh this year I'd guess it'll happen around November, but there's the chance the refresh will be early next year. In terms of gaming the 680MX is an absolute beast, which leaves the 9800 GTX+ in the dust, I'm taking a mountain of dust. Most of us do all of our gaming in Windows via Bootcamp to get the best performance thanks to driver support (and some games are only available for Windows).

Hopefully that's helpful!

i think with 680MX you can play native resolution on high end details games like torchlight or starcraft even on MACOS (starcraft is made for MAC, dont know about T2)

Thank you both for your replies. It makes me feel better about purchasing a Mac. I can't wait for February!

The 360 is an 8-year-old PowerPC system. It's past the point where optimization can help it surpass current hardware.

Where is the actual nexus point? I'm not exactly sure. Again I don't put much faith in console developers to have everything down for optimizing the launch titles. Stab in the dark, here's how I think it plays out:

Better appearance, X1/PS4 vs. then-current PC hardware
2013: Tie
2014: X1/PS4
2015: Tie
2016: PC
2017: PC
2018: PC

Just thought i would bring this back up now we have more info on the new consoles. To start with BF4 and Ghosts will only be running at 720P on the Xbone, even the PS4 will only be able to run BF4 at 900p. Meanwhile on my iMac with the 680mx i will be running BF4 at 1080p locked at 60fps NO problem. Like i said optimization will only get you so far.

First, you're comparing launch titles on new hardware. Second, you won't be running 1080p locked at 60fps with max detail, at least not given my beta experience. :)

Hello.
I would like to buy a 27 per aimac gtx780m only for games.
I am very ieteresuet not cutting back on whether the frequencies of 780 in aimac? That is, there is a full 780m as new alienware m17x ? Who has the opportunity to look at the data to the GPU-Z or tests in 3D Mark 11 or 13 Put a screenshot please.
