Hey guys

I was in GYM yesterday. Someone stole my iphone. The minute I found out, I called the Apple and local police department. I changed all my password.

earlier today, I was using the Mobile Me to sync my contact to my Mac. I found out the guy who stole my iphone deleted all my contacts and email and upgraded his.

So, I found some numbers including his mom and dad.

I called police department, trying to repot what I found. They told me that I need to wait for detector to contact me.

SO, what do you guys think? Should I call his parents or just wait for detector?

Thank yiu

Call the parents.

Why the hell would the police care that someone took an iPhone? There are much bigger problems.

What if his parents want to undercover him? I might not trust what I says

They may want to cover for him, but I really really doubt that. It's obvious that he stole it since his contacts are uploading to your MobileMe account. The police aren't going to make a big deal out of a stolen phone, as said above there are much more serious problems they have to deal with.

I agree with you. It seems calling his parents is the best way.
THX guys

Definately call the parents. And post their response ... I'm sure it will be an interesting one.

If the police told you to wait then you should wait before trying to contact anyone. If you don't hear from them, call them back after a few days.

Enforcing the law is what the police are required to do. They probably wont arrest the kid, but cops showing up at his parents house should embarrass him enough not to pull that stunt again.

If you have the number, is there anyway you can get the address and go round there?

Also, if he has a girlfriend, see if he puts in an entry that relates to GF and then cause some hassle, after you have your phone back of course....I would

You have to consider that the longer you wait, the more possibly it might have changed hands or was re-sold and the other owner might do a full restore and hence ME is over-ridden.

I'ld say call. Offer to withdraw the police complaint if he agrees on returning it fuss free. But insist on meeting at a public place with many people around to avoid complexities. If it is not in the same condition as it was, negotiate for compensation. You do have the upper hand.

Obviously wait for the police to deal with it properly. If you take matters into your own hands you can kiss your phone goodbye for good. You call his parents, they deny it. Then they ask him, he denies it. And your phone is gone. Get the police involved and it might be a different story. I would, however, write down all the phone numbers that get added. Because if he does a full restore or deletes them or realizes you're synced to MobileMe you can bet he'll erase everything.

..... then kick him square in the nuts.

Send yourself a text message saying, "Give me back my phone, or I will hunt you down and get it back myself!"

That is if he didn't change the number.

Lol probably the single worst piece of advice yet.

If the Police don't contact you within 24 hours call back. You have the proof. Don't take matters into your own hands. If the parents or the kid finds out you know he has it there's a good chance you will never see the phone again. If that happens your out what $400-$500. Trust me. You'll be glad you waited on the cops.
