What do you think? Do it/don't?

I don't have any issues otherwise and I know quite a few, if not most of them, have light leak. I know there are some that don't, for example my father's doesn't have it. But i'm wondering if it's worth replacing or not.

I've already done a few swaps with 3G and I did a million with the first gen when I had the most intense electronic OCD.

If everything else is perfect on your current iPhone then you would be making a big mistake. Light leakage has occurred on 100% of the iPhone 3G's I've inspected. However, it's possible if you replace it that you'll get more issues on top of that.

is there any way they'll test it in a dark room before giving me another potential light leak iphone?

if not, i dunno if i want to take the gamble.

No son, Apple have not added a dark room for OCD customers such as yourself...although I begin to think they should.

So then maybe it's not worth the hassle and i'll just stick with mine

every iphone 3g i've seen has some kind of light leakage ( its the rubber seal0

IF everything else works just keep it. Its not worth the hassle of driving/waiting/arguing your cases/restorign your old iPhone... all just to get a phone that might have light leakage aswell

try using your nail to "spread the rubber seal"

When I had my black 16gb iPhone, it didn't have any lightleak whatsoever.

My white one now has it, but I could care less to be honest.

I really don't think it's necessary. light leakage is so common that you risk getting another phone with the same problem. If everything else works fine there is no reason to get a new one.

The last two 3Gs I've had have been free of light leak because I simply asked to inspect the phone before accepting it. They're not going to tell you no. Trust me.

how do i know if my iphone has light leakage, ive never noticed it on mine but then i don't know where it would occur!

Help!

They let you open the boxes before you bought it? I'll have to be sure to do that for my next iPhone.

I love your signature, btw.

Well they always replace with refurbs so they're coming in the white boxes. No accessories/cables/anything, just the phone. If you inspect it and find something wrong with it, it gets marked to be sent back for refurbishing right along with the one you brought in with you.

The first time I did this I weeded out four of their defective phones before finding one I was satisfied with.

I love your signature, btw.

Thanks. I've kind of eased back on the sarcasm. I should probably get around to changing it.

Got my replacement iPhone from Apple on friday, as the case cracked.

I've just been inspecting it now, its the first time i've had cause of a busy weekend, and low and behold theres a light leak, top to bottom on the left hand side.

Looks like im making another trip to the Apple store!

Not always the case. My last light leak was so serious I could actually see into the phone through the gap.
