*693# AT&T says I can upgrade before 2 years?

Hello all,

I bought my iphone 4 on release day in 2010 but when I dial *693# I'm told I get the text message from AT&T that says I can upgrade 2/22/2012.

Are they just being nice and letting me upgrade early or something if I stick with them? Why would they let me upgrade to iPHone 5 before my 2 year contract runs out?

And depending on your plan, it could be even earlier. The more you spend on your monthly plan, the less time you have to wait (although I think there's a limit to how much time it'll shave off).

I thought that generally they let you update in 18 months although you'd need to wait 24 months to cancel the line.

It depends on the plan you have. But yes you can upgrade before your contract is up because they want you to sign another one.

I can upgrade on 10/04/2011, my friend got his a few days later and can't get his until 10/10/2012. We split a family plan, so I find it a bit humorous.

If the main line pays over 100$ a month, then they get sooner upgrades. I am assuming you are the main line and you are paying over 100$

I'm eligible one year to the day of my initial contract signing. I was a new AT&T customer at the time.
