Yes, to be honest, I am hesitant because I have read this forum and seen the issues people are coping with that I am not with this device. But I have decided it isn't normal and that if dust is getting in after 2 weeks of use then what would it look like after a year? The strange thing is that in daylight, I can only see about 3 or so of those dust particles. In the house under a lamp with the phone held at certain angles I saw what looked like dozens of them.

I can and will exchange it for a new device tomorrow at the store I bought it from, which has a 60 day return policy. Let's hope I get a device as good as this one but without the proneness to particle invasion.

I am thinking you new device will be just fine. I would do a good backup though iTunes before turning your phone in.

Good luck and have a great weekend!

Well I did go to the store I bought it from to replace it last week, but the new one out of the box had an ever bigger spec of dust inside the lens  and they were out of stock temporarily.
I told them I would prefer my old phone back and see if it gets worse, given that they have a 60 day return window anyway. Well, the lens itself seems fine, no problems taking pictures and no noticable increase in dust (so it might have been there from the start?).
The worry is however that I have noticed two new dots on the screen and they aren't dead pixels but, again, dust particles. I wonder what the chances are that I simply haven't noticed them before, or that my phone simply has not been sealed off well enough.

I would tell the store to let you know when there is stock so you can exchange it. No way your new phone should be accumulating that much debris on the inside of the lens. Seems to me it will only get worst and sooner or later degrade your new images.

Wow, if even you (no offense, you seem the unfussy non-ocd optimistic type from the few interactions I have had with you) are so pessimistic about my situation then **** got real.

The 6s/+ lens cover is still sapphire? I thought they went to non sapphire, or was that just the iPod Touch 6?

Its up to you if you want to get it replaced for having dust in there, but as a pretty serious photographer I can tell you that they won't show in your pictures. Anything close to the lens will be so grossly out of the field of vision that they will be invisible. I've used my DSLR to shoot through a chain link fence and its not visible in the pictures.

That is reassuring, thank you.

The worry here though is that dust particles could move and eventually drop onto the sensor itself. Also, it's unclear whether the dust was there caused during manufacturing (ie, just like the replacement phone I refused with dust immediately visible under the lens), or that it is a defect of my device and more dust will get in over time. If it's the former, I could live with it because the phone has a very uniform screen and put side to side with my new Ipad air 2 and some other Iphone 6s Plus models I compared, mine is brighter. It's actually a fantastic screen, aside from the aforementioned two (new?) dust particles I have recently noticed. And that gets me paranoid again whether it's always been there or it further confirms that my phone isn't sealed off at normal apple standards.

You just think too much and your phone would not be totally anti dust, just accept the fact.

Been a few months ago now and the OP never replied back as to what he did.
I was too busy with work and life and had to delay getting this looked at (ok, I admit that sometimes I was just too lazy when I did have the time). As time went by I couldn't be bothered anymore to go to an apple store even though there is one within 10 miles from My house. Nothing happened, no dots in pictures and the new toy effect wore off anyway. Camera could be better but that has more to do with this year's iphones in general. No more dust appearing anywhere so I am fine.
