I wonder if this is just us. If anyone else can check this out and report back, that'll be helpful.

I must confess that although strange, I don't find this particularly worrying. Refreshing other tabs when I go to them, and apps, is a major issue to me but I can't forsee an instance where going back within the same browser tab would cause me to lose work etc.

I concur. It's just that the phone lacks a teeny bit in responsiveness during this very brief period that annoys me...but glad to know that your android tablet does the same thing. So this could be attributed to some "must do" checks once you go back for maybe all browsers/hardware. I'll check my MBP tomorrow on both Safari and Chrome.

I'm pretty sure that a pc or mac won't exhibit this behaviour, but my 6S+ and Android tablet do. You'd think that going back to a previously loaded page would be instantaneous and involve no refreshing. It can't be a RAM issue.

Well, it turns out even my 2014 MBP exhibits this behavior. Safari does reload when going back to the previous page. It freezes for less than a second before loading the page. Chrome, meanwhile, is fast, but blanks out the page for a fraction of a second when going back and so the reload in chrome is almost invisible, but it's there. I am now not surprised 6s+ exhibits this behavior as well.

I suppose it's normal behavior. Case closed :)

Edit: BTW, you are correct in that the phone doesn't do this all the time which is all the more strange. Anyways, I think I have a keeper ;)

Thanks for the update. So it appears to be normal, albeit strange behaviour.

All my devices do this. They are all good at remembering where I left off. So I may see a page reload but it will take me back to the middle of the page or where ever I was.

Safari on OS X used to be really bad for this, adblockers would cause but even without them it would do it more often than not. Finally Safari 9 seems a lot better.

I've noticed this with all my Macs including 2015 MBP using Safari.
