I have an iPhone 6s Plus 128GB.

Phone is in good working order, could do with a battery upgrade though (I know it's only £29 til Christmas). Since upgrading to iOS 12 it's pretty quick.

I'm considering a iPhone XS, I would probably need to buy the 256GB version as 64GB seems too small.

I'm wondering if buying a new XS when my 6S Plus is still in good shape is worth it?

I know the camera is better on the XS - and I will be primarily taking pictures of the family.

Is the camera that much better than the 6S Plus? Will I noticed a decent improvement from the 6S?

What other reasons for the upgrade - why is the XS better?

The other main thing I can think of is a personal reason, I would like to go back to a smaller form factor - Plus to standard XS.

Wow. Well, uh... Let’s see.

XS compared to your 6S Plus is:

MUCH faster. (Overall operation, WiFi & Cellular, downloading etc.)

Better cameras on the front AND back.

Much improved speakers.

Wireless charging.

OLED screen and more screen real estate. HDR quality.

Better build quality and stronger glass.

Water resistance.

Fast charging.

Soooo many reasons.

Better camera yes - but how much better - both seem to be 12MP.

It’s not just about MP. It’s about the sensors/aperture. The XS can do Smart HDR and it was dual rear cameras. A telephoto lens and wide angle lens.

The XS camera lets a LOT more light in than the 6SP.

There is a noticeable difference in picture quality between the 2 devices.

I understand where you’re coming from, minus the plus I am going from a 6s to the Xs. The thing is, in the old days upgrading was more of a ‘need’ because of how slow the old phones got (yes I know it’s not an actual need). Now with the advancements over time the 6s is still a great phone 3 years on, and upgrading has become much more of a ‘want’.
Here are my reasons for wanting to upgrade now:
Better, state of the art screen
Bigger screen, edge to edge design
Much faster
Significantly better photos especially in tricky lighting situations
More storage
Water resistance
More RAM
Face ID
Better battery life (even after replacing the battery my 6s still doesn’t last that long).
Wireless charging I see as a bonus, not a reason to upgrade though. But it is the way of the future.

All this adds up to a ‘future-proofed’ phone that should easily last 3-4 years or beyond depending on appetite to upgrade again down the track for more advanced reasons of the above.

Going from the iPhone 7 Plus to the X felt like a bit of a letdown since I was so used to the displays on the 6S Plus and 7 Plus. It's jarring, even though the X and XS have larger 5.8-inch displays, I missed the Plus size. Glad I'll be back to a larger display with with the XS Max.

You’re losing a lot of screen width with the Xs. To match the screen width of the 6s+, you’d need an Xr or Max.

I have a 6s+. Thinking about the Max if right cases (IE Battery cases coming out.) I am in the same boat, very good, 99% battery.

Im starting to lean to not to bother with the upgrade, iOS 12 is really good on 6S, and for £29 I can get a new battery.

The camera is definitely better on the XS, but I can still take fairly decent shots (for a phone) with the 6S.

Go MAX! I was never happy with the narrow X screen size, coming from a 7 Plus. SO READY FOR THE BIG SCREEN AGAIN!
Coming from a 7 Plus, I would never consider the Xs or X. That would be quite the downgrade in terms of screen width.

The only two 2018 options are the Xr and the Xs Max. The Xr's lower pixel density might be noticeable though, and you lose the telephoto lens with the Xr, so the most logical upgrade from the 7 Plus is indeed the Max.

That price though.... Partially because of it, and partially because iOS 12 is so good on the iPhone 7 Plus, I'm not upgrading from my 7 Plus this year. However, my wife wants a bigger phone, so is upgrading from her narrow 6s to the Xr. Both have single lens cameras and both are 326 ppi, so that's the perfect upgrade.

I just went from selling my X (after 11 months use) back to my 6S Plus now. First thing to notice is the LCD screen quality is washed out and not nearly as good contrast as that OLED X.

The slower speed is still noticeable even with iOS 12 update. These newer iPhones swipe and launch apps much faster.

However, you can't go wrong with using your 6S Plus until 2019 because next year's iPhone will have some big improvements along with the price tag. But that is a better time to upgrade.

Yes, 2019 is what I am hoping, base price is 128GB and no notch (possibly).

I'm going. XS 256GB Gold on the way...

The XR screen width is less and not as ideal for widescreen video. Only the Xs Max has comparable screen width. As a current iPhone 6s Plus owner, I would not get the XR after taking both aspect ratio and pixel density into consideration.

Same situation. iPhone 6s+ that is in great shape. Battery still at 100% health. It is tempting to look at the Xr or Xs Max but in reality my 6s+ does everything I need it to do. The new phones are certainly faster but I'm not a power user so I'm not sure how much I would even notice the increase and running ios 12 it still is snappy enough for me. The better camera would be nice but the 6s+ pictures are adequate for my needs and I have DSLR for serious photos. So I've decided to hold off for another year or two or as long as they still support the 6s+ with new software updates. Plus, I like having the headphone port without using an adaptor since I use headphones with the phone just about every day.

Another 6S+ guy here; really would love to get the XS Max for the better camera, but I'm not yet convinced that camera alone (which reviews say is not even as good as last year's Pixel 2 camera) is worth $1300 PLUS the loss of TouchID & headphone jack.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yes the loss of the headphone jack is another reason against the upgrade for me.

Also a 6S Plus user. Battery Health at 89%. Its the longest i have ever had a phone. The Xs isn't worth the price to me and the Xr is a downgrade to me screen-wise.

But i want (not need) an OLED screen and less bezels. I was actually thinking of getting last year's X since retailers are flushing stock at a discount plus i can still get a decent trade-in value for my 6s.

But my 6S+ has been rock solid and given a new life with iOS 12 so i don't really need to but want to 'upgrade'.

I'm moving from a 6S+ to XS Max. I have found recently that my phone's performance feels like it has fallen behind a bit as apps have continued to update and it has tried to keep up. It hasn't been an inconvenient lag by any means, but it has felt like it has been beginning to struggle a tiny bit, although a battery replacement and IOS 12 would both inject some new life into it. I'm currently at 83% capacity and it says it is at peak performance, but the battery drain can be quite dramatic and it gets quite hot when using some of the more performance intensive apps.

Instead, I have decided to upgrade so that my personal phone has the latest specs, and to keep my current 6S+ as my media device for listening to music, podcasts etc as well as for managing work emails and other job related needs. I'm going to get a new battery put in it, so any apps I will be using it for won't have any noticeable performance issues. It will also help me divide the battery life between devices so that I can better balance my usage.

Like others, I can't simply go to the XS as I need that big screen. For me, screen size, battery life and display specs are my most important qualities, so the XS Max is the clear choice for me.

Earlier this year, I went from the 6+ to the 8. While its nice to have a smaller phone in the hand and pockets, the smaller screen is really noticeable (that and the shorter battery life). I have pretty strong switching "remorse" since I really missed the large screen the more and more I use the 8. I'm contemplating trading in the 8 for the XR.

Looking at different links people posted, looks like the horizontal amount of "points" are the same between the XS Max, XR and the plus models.
