Hello,
So I've brought an iPad charger to use with my 6S Plus in order to charge it quicker.

When it's plugged in, it does charge quicker, but it seems Touch ID stops working.
It just doesn't think my finger is there at all.

Have to unlock using passcode.

I opened Apple Pay and that also doesn't think my finger is present.

As soon as I unplug it, it works again.

It's a genuine iPad Charger and Lightning cable brought direct from the Apple website.

While it's not a total disaster, I just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on this?

Thanks.

Miles

The iPad charger is for iPad, not iPhone. I'm not sure that charging these phones quicker than they were designed will be good for the battery in the long run? I might be totally wrong though...

Yes, you are totally wrong. The iPad chargers are compatible with the iPhones and iPods. Apple even states as much. I have an iPad charger that I use with my 6s Plus. I haven't had the same problem as the OP, though.

No problem using my 6s with my iPad Air charger. Touch ID works as expected. Suggest restarting your phone and see if it continues to happen.

I used my ipad charger with my 6 and now with my 6s. Touch ID never stops working for me. I don't have any advice to fix it but its not normal.

Fair enough. Does it charge noticeably faster with the iPad charger? My 6S does charge quite quickly with the standard plug but I imagine the 6+/6S+ will take longer with the larger capacity battery?

I'm using my iPad 4 charger for my iPhone 6s+ and it's working fine.

Been using my iPad 4 charger with my 4, 5, 6, 6+ and 6s+ all working fine.

Definitely. It's not as quick as a Qualcomm quick charge on Android phones, but it does charge the phone noticeably faster. The first time I tried it with my 6s Plus, I picked up the phone after about twenty to thirty minutes on the charger and was pretty surprised at how much better it worked.

Yes it does.
I have purchased a number of anker chargers from Amazon.
They are a little bigger than a pack of cigarettes.
They come with 4-6 ports all 2.1 amps

Apple announced last year that if you have an iPhone Plus it can utilized the higher watt charger. I'm not sure if they made any changes from last year but the non-plus or regular iPhone did not have any gain from this charger. Either way it should not damage your device if you use it :)

Does Touch ID work with the smaller charger that came with the phone? If it does it could be you have a bad iPad charger. Rare but it could be. If Touch ID does not work, even with the included charger, you might want to contact Apple.

Thanks for all the replies everyone.

Interesting that no one else else encountered this...

A little more info.
When I used an Anker cable with the charger, it charger at a slower rate but Touch ID was fine.
Yesterday I used an Apple cable with it. It charged faster as expected but no Touch ID.

I tried a reboot while plugged in. Nothing. I tried a hard reboot. Nothing. As soon as I unplugged it, all was fine again.
Plugged back in and lost Touch ID again.

Very odd.

When I use the normal iPhone charger, that works fine and no issues.

So do we think it could be a dodgy charger?

The real question is should I be worried? Do we think it could be damaging the phone?

Thanks everyone.

I've got the same problem with touch ID on my 6S Plus, but using a MOS Reach (http://mosorganizer.com/reach) USB socket...it's very strange...sometimes touch ID works, but after leaving my finger on it for about 30s!

Is your phone in a case? I only ask as the metal case will feel like its buzzing when charging and wonder if this affects it.

Yes, it's in a Apple Leather Case.
OK, not that then. Mine is too and I use an Anker 6 port charger (honestly, best £20 I spent to have one block do them all). No props here with it but Ive not tried an actual iPad charger yet.

I always charge my iPhone 6 plus my my iPad charger. It's is safe to use a iPad charger with an iPhone as devices are built to only take the power they need to charge.

Also on apples website they list the iPhone as compatible with the iPad charger.

I just got my new iPhone 6s plus yesterday and charged it with my iPad charger as I didn't wanted to take out the charger provided with phone.. (there are too many chargers lying around in the house :()

Couldn't test the timing properly as it was already 80 % charged when I put it.. will do it tonight or tomorrow morning and test it depending on when my phone battery dies..

It takes about 2 hours to charge from 0-100% on the iPad charger. I think I was able to get to 60-70% in an hour. It may charge a little quicker with the power off. I'd take it in to an Apple Store with your charger if you can, because Touch ID should be working fine while charging.

I've always charged my iPhones with the iPad charger since the iPhone 5. These days, I don't even bother taking the iPhone charger out of bathe box anymore, the many iPad chargers around the house serve the purpose well. Never had any trouble with battery life (my iPhone 5 is still at 90% mAH capacity after 400 cycles) and my 6+/ 6S+ Touch ID has not faced any problem at all.
