Hello friends,
By now, you must know that I have been sticking with my old 6s since the beginning. But I wanna change, decision taken. And I want a brand new phone from Apple. No used stuff. Please just put some light. I did the math and I have a budget of $1000 with taxes. Keep in mind, I’m in Canada and prices are way higher than the States. So here it goes: iPhone 12 mini 64g = 5,4 inch = 799$. iPhone 12 64g = 6,1 inch = 949$ or iPhone 11 64g = $679 or 128g = $749. I can afford the taxes on the 12 - 949$ That will make the total over 1 grand. Btw. 11 and 12 pro and Max are nowhere to be found on Apple site. My usage: email, browsing, talk on the phone a lot, no FB, Twitter, Tik Tok or any social networking. Would probably take more photos than with my 6 s but I have expensive DSLR and lens for my photographic activities. My worries with 12: image retention. Since coming from a 6s, I imagine the speed boost will be noticeable? Thanks so many times in advance.

If you’re someone who holds on to a phone for a long time it makes sense to go for the newest model you can afford for future proofing; the price increase will pay for itself the longer you hold onto the phone. Both the 11 and 12 are great but I’d take the 12 in your case.

maybe look into the new iphone 13 that has just been released. the 12 pro and max has been taken off of apples site as the iphone 13 pro and pro max have replaced them

I would go at least for a 12 series if you can afford it : OLED, redesign, 5G is good to have especially if you plan to keep your phone for 3 years or more

For 12 maybe check third party sellers, at least in France brand new iphone from n-1 / n-2 gens are 10-20% cheaper vs Apple webeite but I'm not sure it applies to your country.

Don't take the 12 mini because of its price, you pick it only if you are convinced of its size. I would avoid it if you are not so sure on that - even if it is an excellent phone.

I came from an 8 to an 11 a year ago.
I have small hands and I always thought the 11 is too big for me, but I loved the screen size.
After having issues with the ear speaker, I could return the 11 after 1 year plus , and get my money back.

decided I would take the decrease in screen size for granted, and I went for a 12 mini 128 gb (€711) here in the Netherlands.

My advice is, go to a shop where you can hold the phones, and decide what size is good for you, because you will be stuck with your choice for some years.

Do you want FaceID or want to keep TouchID (can be better with mask) ?
Do you need a small one like your 6s or a bigger size like the 12 ?
Do you need a good battery or can recharge it twice a day ?

For the 3rd question, it could be nice if you forgot to recharge it before going out 😉

Touch ID but I guess I should make the jump and accept the changes
I want a bigger size than 6s 4.7 inches
I'd prefer a good battery but I can also recharge it twice a day.

Funny, now I feel I should have bought the XR sooner...

Was thinking about the SE 2020, but it's the same screen size than 6s.
Maybe the next SE that should be announced in 2022 (only a rumor). No idea if it will have FaceID or still TouchID.

An old iPhone 8 Plus will still have touchID and a bigger screen. But the phone is really big.
As the battery isn't a problem, you can try the 12 mini. Screen is bigger than 6s but the iPhone is small (smaller than 6s). You have to check it in Apple Store (or another place) if its size isn't a problem for you. You can check with the 13 mini, it the same size.

About the iPhone 11 and 12, they are nearly the same. If you want 5g, the 12 is better.
I think it should be better to buy the iPhone 12. You will keep it longer.

Yesterday I wrote about finding the regular 11 too big, and I ordered the 12 mini.

received my mini yesterday around 19:00.
It came with 50% battery charge, and I spend the evening with restoring my iCloud backup, downloading all apps and game updates ( around 80 GB in total).
Watched some YouTube, and have screen on time from 20:30 till 01:00, and I went to sleep with 20% battery.

I was positively surprised by this, seeing as it was constantly downloading, and I was constantly using it ( how it goes whenever you have a new device).

You said you can charge it during the day, so I don’t see any reason not to go for the mini.

Wise words my friend!

Just picked up a green iPhone 12 mini. It's a really great phone, especially if you are using it primarily for communication (i.e. telephone calls, Zoom, Facetime). I turned off 5g, don't really need it, iPhone is still working great on Verizon, strong connection.

I don't think you can go wrong with any iPhone 12 product. And you won't need to spend $1k to get a great phone. Of course, if you are using your phone for heavy movies, games, and perhaps making video content, by all means, pick up a 12 Pro Max. You will be very happy with it.

I do hope apple keeps the mini coming. I always plan to do 3/4 years with a phone (the faulty 11 not included after 1 year). So there better be a “mini” in 2024/25 😅

I'm very impressed with the iPhone 12 mini. It's got an awful lot of capability in a great package and at a competitive price (recent price reduction). Screen is a joy to use, everything working just perfect thus far.

I too hope they keep making them, I don't upgrade every year and I'd love to buy another mini in a few years.

Been to BestBuy this Sunday. Held a 12 Mini, 12 and 11. I have to say, I love the 6'1 inch form factor. Saw a difference between the OLED screen of the 12 and the 11 LCD. Would I regret a LCD over a OLED? 12 mini in my hands was very "mini". Actually it reminded me of my 5s and 1st gen SE. Strangely first thought in my head was 'Do I want to go back to a 5s?". But of course the 12 mini was demon fast and the screen is fantastic. I think I'l have to chose between a 12 or a mini. But the 11 was way faster than my old 6s anyway. I compared side by side. So as for the speed, I cannot say I would feel it so much if I chose a 11. I'm getting at it and you're helping me a lot. Thanks so much.

Personally, I would buy the 12 over the 11, but I understand price is always a determining factor. I would shop around at all the carriers (prepaid/postpaid) before making a decision. I'm sure there has to be some good deals in Canada as well.

Good Lord no. It's well known prices of plans by any carrier I Canada are the highest the world. My carrier Rogers-Fido doesn't even has rebates for the 11. Full price even when 12 and 13 are available. Only used ones are cheaper. Plus, the prices of iPones are higher than the exchange for US dollars. Worst situation on adds sites. Sellers sell their 11 almost same price it is now on Apple site that is 679% for 64g. That is the price XR used to be. So you have to be a millionnaire when it comes to Apple. That's why I even thought buying a new Android like A51-52 at around 400$. But can't believe I would do that. But if I'm force due to my budget...Just imagine what you Americans can buy for 1000$ budget.

Like I said before, the 11 was a tad too big for me, but I always loved the screen size, and the LCD is really good. If not for a faulty ear speaker and my warranty, I would have used it for 2/3 years more.

If you wanna save some money, go for the 11, can’t go wrong there.

If you want to use your whole budget, always go for the 12 😊

For your budget I’d get the iPhone 13. Get the newest iPhone you can afford as the regular iPhone 13 is pretty much better than an 11 Pro in almost every department.

If your phone will not be your primary camera, I'd buy the iPhone Mini 13 over the Mini 12 or iPhone 12. It's $80 more expensive in Canada, but it has double the storage as standard (128gb vs. 64gb), has a larger battery and a slightly better camera compared with the Mini 12. Compared with the identically priced iPhone 12, the Mini 13 has double the storage.

Also, as the Mini 13 is the most recent phone, it should hold its value longer just in case you sell it down the line.

Save up for the 13, you'll get an additional 2 years of IOS updates over the 11. Not to mention double the storage, better cameras, and better battery. Since you're still chugging along with the 6s shows you don't update for a long time...
