Good morning,

I have an iPhone 7 Plus with the public beta (through Apple) installed, and the bottom microphone doesn't work for voice calls, speaker phone, voice recordings, or facetime. I can do a video with audio fine, so the back mic works. I called Apple support yesterday, and the guy there had me try "Hey Siri", which worked, and voice to text, which also works, so I'm not sure if that means that it's an issue with the hardware or the operating system? The guy on Apple support said that both the Siri interaction and voice to text use the bottom mic, so for them to have worked makes me think it's a software issue?

I clean dust and junk from the bottom holes out with little disposable plastic tooth picks that have rubber teeth, so I hope that it's not anything to do with that?

I did a factory restore yesterday, then a restore backup. The mic still isn't working, but I think that if it's an issue with the software, restoring the backup would put the issue back on. I'm going to try to downgrade to iOS 11.2.5 now.

Has anyone had a similar issue?

I have an even more extreme case. My iphone 7 stopped accepting voice calls and facetime calls. I also cant record voice memos, Siri wont respond to my voice commands...basically anything to do with my mic has gone bad. This happened after I updated to the 11.3 iOS update.

I took my device to the Apple Store (at West Valley Fair) and they could not detect any issues. They restored the phone back to factory settings and that did not solve the issue. Their diagnostic tool did not work and so the "Cookie-cutter" solution they gave me was "UPGRADE" to a new iphone 7 at a cost of $350 because I am out of warranty....WTF!!!

This is Apple's fault and they need to own up to it. My perfectly fine iphone has stopped working and someone at Apple has to respond back.

A VERY DISGRUNTLED CUSTOMER.

I just had my wife’s iPhone 7 replaced this morning. Out of warranty and Apple took care of the bill. The mic on the device had failed

My wife's iPhone 7 had a failed mic too. 6 months past the end of the warranty, apple wouldn't do anything. they said i had to pay $350 for a replacement or get a new phone. Absolutely ridiculous and shows how terrible of a company Apple can be.

That’s too bad. And it seems like Apple recently stopped replacing them out of warranty, so you just barely missed the replacement window.
