But this isn't Light Peak. This is one just uses copper. So more than likely a Rev 2 will come which will be called Light Peak.

So I'm not so sure about it lasting very long.
This port can accept the upcoming optical inputs....

Talked to an apple rep. and asked about the lower battery time, figuring they would rebut with the whole more rigorous test thing, but she just simply stated that the 13" new processor required more power to be faster. So I'm not buying the whole "more real life" test thing...

This seems odd to me. I get about 7.5 hours on the 2010. that's with wifi on, brightness to half, backlit keyboard on lowest (when it allows me to have it on, I just think it looks better with it on), bluetooth off (when I remember as I only need it for my magic mouse when I'm using it as a desktop where it is plugged in but it doesn't seem to seriously impact battery life to tell the truth), safari, MS Word, ssh, calculater, sudoko game.

Now, if I use Firefox that battery life goes down by 2 or more hours. So I admit I do change my habits when I'm on battery vs. power (But I don't need Firefox on when on battery so it's not impacting me too much).

This is interesting.. I did not know this. So using Firefox instead of using Safari consumes a lot more power??

At 3hr 23mins of use with 50% remaining on the charge. Using safari only and no flash. Screen set to 50% brightness and backlight keys set to off. New 2011 Macbook pro 13in on it's second battery charge

While it appears it will make its claimed 7hr battery life, I would not call my described use as "normal," for myself. Normally I would be downloading something, listening to music, surfing the web with at least 6 tabs open, and probably 2-4 miscellaneous programs running in the background such as skype, or word. Also I would have the screen more in the 80% brightness category with the keys lit and the occasional tv show/movie. I wonder what that will do to my battery life?

Does anybody know of a program that serves as a timer for my macbooks battery life so I can take off this pesky stopwatch?

new macbook pro 13in with the i5. My mac is about to die at 0% battery life with an associated run time of 6hrs 29mins using only safari and text editor, no flash. screen at 50% brightness and keys either off or at the first brightness level

Flash is like a greedy fat person gorging themselves on your battery. Use Safari, enroll in HTML5 for youtube, and download clicktoflash and that will easily add 1.5 hours at least to your battery time without sacrificing time surfing.

...is there a "click to flash" like app for win7 OS for when I'm running in bootcamp?

There is likely to be a small loss in battery life, as the new CPUs are more power-hungry (35W vs. 25W), however the GPU is included in that 35W, so 7 hours should be pretty accurate.

Actually the TDP is 45W on the current quad-core and 35W on the previous dual-core.

...but a higher price for a modest upgrade with lower battery life is a bit disappointing.

You gotta be kidding me. We're talking about MacBook Pros that are now beating out Mac Pro desktop models from last year (just look at the benchmarks that were posted to the front page)! And almost twice as fast as their predecessors. I don't know what kind of crazy planet some of you haters are living on, but this is probably the biggest performance upgrade to the Macbook Pro line since the switch to Intel in 2006! We were all expecting the 15" and 17" models to top out at the 2.7Ghz dual-core i7 found in the 13" model, lol. But they blow right past that. Insanity.

I got the new 17'' last night (3.3GHz Intel i7). I am at 70% battery right now and it's showing the remaining battery time at about 4:00 hours. is this normal? This translates to a bit more than 5 hours when fully charged. I have only safari, and mail running now (bluetooth is off).

I haven't really gone through a full battery charge so I can't offer a more statistically-sound report, but based on the battery meter estimates I have seen, it does not go above 5-6 hours of battery life when fully charged... :(

"25 popular websites"... This description is too basic to mean anything. Do these websites have any animation, videos, flash, etc playing or are they a bunch of mostly text websites such as reddit, digg, etc ?

Picked up the new 13in today, fully charged it, while using wifi and 60%-90% brightness, I changed it a few times adjusting for ambient light conditions, I received just under 4 hours of battery life. I was using safari, youtube, downloaded a few movies, added some songs to itunes (didn't listen to them), installed a few programs, adjusted system settings, made a call on skype. I don't know what everyone here calls "normal usage" but I would call my actions "normal" for me at least. Sitting in a coffee shop writing an email on a barely lit screen with NOTHING else going on, i.e. no other applications in use, is NOT normal for me.

Im seriously wondering how much of a performance boost this new i5 gives....???

Youtube kills battery life, you can thank adobe for that.

I've fully emptied and fully charged my 2011 MBP 13", which was restored from a TM backup of a white MacBook.

Battery estimate is leaping around quite wildly, but converging around the 7hr mark. It has been as high as 9hrs+, but will leap by half-an-hour to an hour within seconds of changing activity.

Is this erraticness because of the restore from another system? What are other new owners finding?
