Bought new macbook about a month ago, said 10 hour battery in the description on amazon.com.

when i got the macbook the side of its box had a clock showing a 7 hours.

How can i tell if i have the 7 or the 10?

Its a macbook 7,1

Thats very silly, lol must be they had old stock and they had left over boxes?

Apple's claims are usually above what the average user gets. They're based on certain settings which use less power than what most people use (such as Airport not on all the time, Bluetooth off all the time, screen brightness all the way down, etc.

This is true of all battery life claims from any company. You didn't get old stock, your battery is functioning just fine.

My MBP 13" 2010 box doesn't have a battery on the side. On one side is the iLife, NVidia GPU and Unibody pictures and the other side has the Apple logo.
