I don't think they are tightly bound together, just a strap to keep them close.

Maybe, but as a runner, you'd think his wrist, and arms, would be falling off by now.

They have been training for this event, so my thinking is that they run similar paces so the strap does not become an issue.

Thinking about a 26 mile 3-legged race almost made me vomit. 🙁
